What is TOEFL?
The PBT is a pencil and paper test that is offered for two purposes. One purpose of the PBT is for
placement and progress evaluations. Colleges or other institutions use the PBT to test their students.

Formulating Your Strategies

To Be informed
Know what to expect on the TOEFL test. If you are informed, you will not be surprised and
confused on the day of the exam.

To Review
To succeed on the TOEFL, you must have studied English already. It is not possible to achieve
an excellent score if you are just beginning to study English.
It is possible to make a higher score by reviewing what you have already studied, especially
when you concentrate on the type of English that appears most often on the TOEFL.

To Practice
Do a simulation on the items on the TOEFL exam. Try to you understand the directions for each
section.
Learn test strategies as well : how to manage your time on each section, how to eliminate
possible answer choices, and when to guess.

To Evaluate
Estimate your score before you take the test . Take it at the point when you have the best
opportunity to succeed.
Grading your Test

1. Add the tree scores together


2. Divide the sum by three
3. Multiply by ten

4. 51 + 52 + 58 = 161
5. 161 / 3 = 53.7
6. 53.7 x 10 = 537

To Get 450 at least you have to get 25

There are two types of questions in this section of the test


1. Structure (1-15)
Each sentence is replaced with a blank and followed by four answer choices
2. Written Expression (16-40)
Each sentence has four words our group of words that have been underlined.
Choose underlined word or group or words that is not correct.

The questions are in linear order. Each type progresses from easy to diffcult.
