Chapter 7-9

RAMANDEEP KAUR
Chapter 7

Scott explains the ways in which comics differs from other forms of communication. In
this chapter, however, Scott explains that all art has certain characteristics in
common(beginning it survival and reproduction).Using a series of panels to display a
day in the life of early Man, Scott explains how the pursuit of art serves three
evolutionary purposes. I found this chapter very theoretical. These pictures show
creation of any work in any medium that will always follow this path.
Why these images?
Image 1: Displays the six steps and relates that to an apple chosen for its
shiny skin.

Image 2: Displays images relating to each step, that can be used in need of
memorization.

Image 3: Shows the many forms that self-expression and communication can
take place such as theatre or singing.
Chapter 9:
Sequential Art
This 3 images are
important because
this whole chapter
talks about how
comics make people
understand in a
different way by
words,music,
listening, videos etc.
Chapter 9: Summary

The summary for Chapter 9 is that it talks mostly about how people who write comics
try to tell their story in words, pictures, drawings, music, symbols, colors and many
other differents ways.
Chapter 8: A Word About Color

This chapter is about the concept of color within comics and how it may impact
comics.
Why are these images important?

Image 1: this image represent the beginning of using colors in comics, aka. Using all
primary colors all together. Which resulted in a gray emotional feel.

Image 2: this image represent the concept of flat color, which is when one color was
mainly used in order to convey one specific feel.

Image 3: this image represents the overall reason why using color is a lot of times
more favorable when making comics, due to commerce and technology.
