Barriers to learning:
Adapting ( Being new to everything)
Social Influence ( Emotions, opinions, and behavior
are affected by others)
Economical status ( Material things)
Segregated sheltered classrooms ( Dividing
students where they should feel safe)
Adapting (Culture shock)
the feeling of disorientation experienced by someone who is suddenly
subjected to an unfamiliar culture, way of life, or set of attitudes.

Phases of Culture Shock:

1.Adventurous -> The wanting to learn new things and prosper in the
new culture

2.Rejection -> Homesick, motivation diminishes ; Feel angry, anxious,

and even depressed ; Not finding what you expected

3.Recovery -> Feeling and Attitude will improve over time and being
able to enjoy the new surroundings and opportunities.

This is a barrier because a child could be stuck in a bad phase for too
Social Influence
A social influence is when a child's emotions, opinions, and behavior are
affected by others.

You can be the difference in them.

This type of influence can be a barrier because it will either help the
child take in the new surroundings and get comfortable, or it can give
the child a reason to be homesick or really dislike the new change.
Economical status

There are many reasons as to why a family comes to the U.S for refuge.
Most of the time its for a childs better life and for bigger opportunities.

Education in this matter is really important because money doesnt

matter when you have a brain.

On the other hand, money and material things will always be a barrier
because money is power and when a childs family has low resources
and the child knows it, they feel powerless and out of place.
Segregated sheltered classrooms

The classroom should be a place where students feel safe.

If children feel safe, they can take risks, ask questions,

make mistakes, learn to trust, share their feelings, and
grow.

This can be a barrier, because if the child doesnt feel safe, they restrain
themselves from learning.
