Course Aim and Summary

The aim of the Course is to impart the concepts of


molecular level chemical processes associated with
living cells for control, treatment and prevention of
diseases.

After studying this Course, students will be able to:
1. Explain the etiopathogenesis of selected infectious
diseases, musculoskeletal and renal disorders
2. Discuss the principles of cancer therapy and
dermatological disorders
3. Identify the patientspecific parameters relevant in
initiating and monitoring drug therapy and adverse
effects
4. Discuss the therapeutic approach in the
management of selected diseases and controversies
in drug therapy
5. Prepare individualized therapeutic plans based on

Method of Assessment

There are two components for assessment in this


Course:

Component 1: 30% weight (CE)


Term Test: 30% Weight

Three tests (each of 30 marks) will be conducted


one at the end of 8 th week, second at the end of 16
th week and the third at the end of 24 th week, the
average of best two tests will be the marks scored
in term test and reduced to 15 marks. One
assignment for 30 marks will be reduced to 15
marks and a total of 30 marks (sessional and 7

Component 2 : 70% weight


A 3 hour duration year end examination will be
conducted for maximum marks of 70.
The assessment questions are set to test the
learning outcomes. The following table illustrates
the focus of learning outcome in each component
assessed
