PAKISTAN JAPAN BUSINESS FORUM

Vision

The forum facilitates, encourages, promotes business and


friendly relationship between the industrial and business
communities of Pakistan & Japan.

Our Beginning.

Pakistan Japan Business was formed on February 6, 2001 with the


blessing of the Ambassador of Japan, Pakistan business co-operation
committee and Federal Minister of Commerce, Industries & Production
at Consulate General of Japan's official residence in Karachi.

It is one of the first bilateral business forums to be set up in Pakistan.

We lead the way..

We are the only bilateral business forum to :

Hold a multilateral Investment Conference in 2011, which was attended


about 220 participants from 25 countries.

Prepare a report for GOP in 2009 in conjunction with Japan Pakistan


Business Council, Japan for achieving vision 2030.

Take SME delegations repeatedly to Japan and set up B2B meetings for the
delegates. Also set up B2B meeting with visiting Japanese delegation yearly.

Have Joint Dialogue every 2 years, rotating between Pakistan and Japan. We
are also invited to participate in G2G Dialogue which is held alongwith.

We are the only bilateral business forum to :

Arrange Seminars on Energy Conservation & Textile Exporting Workshop

Arrange trainings annually in our partner country

Provide News of the Day culled from Pakistani & Japanese Newspapers.

Hold a Board meeting monthly, where all decision are transparently taken. Our
Board has 10 Japanese and 10 Pakistani directors.

Provide a Value card to our Life Members.

Provide a membership tool kit to our joining members.

Business Delegations
17 member delegation to Afghanistan to explore food / electric market in 2002.

A 7 member delegation went to Japan alongwith President Musharraf to explore


business opportunities in 2004 and a 5 member delegation with President Asif
Ali Zardari in 2011.

13 member SME delegation mainly from pharmaceutical was taken to Japan In


2013. This was the first time any bilateral body had done so.

16 member SME delegation representing 6 sectors taken to Japan in 2014

19 member SME delegation representing 6 sectors taken to Japan in 2015

15 member SME delegation to Japan in May 2016

Intra Forum Interactive Program (IFIP)

The objective of the Intra Forum Interactive Program is to help members of the forum
to get a better knowledge and understanding of the business of their fellow members
and possibly reach a business arrangement. PJBF is providing this platform to its
members to meet in a semi- formal environment.

The program is open to all members.

The Intra Forum Interactive session will provide an excellent opportunity for the members to:
a) Network amongst the Pakistan Japan Business Forum Members.
b) Learn about forums members companies both local and Japanese and their activities
with Japan / Pakistan.
c) Create business opportunities amongst the forum member companies.

In Government Committees

PJBF became member of Task Force Committee by Finance Minister to improve


business environment

PJBF was invited to become member of Japan Pakistan Cooperation Committee by


the Finance Minister Mr. Shaukat Tarin to study the impediments faced by Business
community , to implement the Joint Study Group Report submitted by PJBF

With the collaboration of other 11 bilateral bodies, Multilateral Conference which is


also a first ever mega event of this type organized by any bilateral body was held in
2011. Event was supported by BOI and TDAP.

PJBF is a participant in Joint Government to Government Dialogue being held in


Pakistan and in Japan

Membership

We offer membership to business community under 4 categories viz:

Foreign members,
For those based in Japan

Fellow members,
Japanese companies or who have a joint venture, technical agreement with Japanese companies, agents
or who have sales turnover of Rs. 300 M

General Members,
Who have business dealing with Japanese Companies

Associate Member,
Who would like to establish business ties with Japan.

PJBF Membership
Value Cards

PJBF is the only bilateral body to introduce membership


cards, which are value cards, as discounts at various
hotels and on purchase of generators, copiers, cameras,
and services etc, offered by member companies.

Facilitation
We provide maximum facilitation to our foreign and
local business entities by way of recommending
visas, arranging airline tickets, making hotel
arrangements, arranging B2B meetings.

Some Other Notable Achievements of PJBF

Approval of 2000 acres Japanese Special Economic Zone

Facilitated business agreements between some Japanese and Pakistani


Companies.
Pursued amendment in SRO 881 which helped a member company
located in EPZ.
Scrap trucks which were imported in large quantity in year 2010-11
were reduced in subsequent years due to the effective lobbying by PJBF.
Continual lobbying since last 4 years for an EHP with Japan on some ISO
tariff lines covering textiles. Both GOP & GOJ are now seized with the
matter.
Procedure of work visa to foreigners became smooth on request of PJBF
to BOI

Future Plan - 2016

Business delegation to Japan in 2017.

Follow-up on Joint Dialogue held in 2015 in Pakistan.

Lobbying with the Pakistani Government to remove bottlenecks faced by business

Frequency of Intra Forum Interactive Program to be increased to create net working

Training by HIDA trained Trainers as HIDA is not willing to spend money on Pakistan

Collaboration agreement to be signed with active SME business associations in Japan
