Why Remedial Teaching?
Like snow flakes , each person is unique
Ability of each person is different
Same size does not fit all
Some ,like camphor , catch what one teaches
holistically
Some need a lot of time to take in information
in small segments
Some need repetition
Some do not learn the way majority do. (Visual,
Kinaesthetic, audio learners)
Cont..d
Problems in learning environment
Fear of learning in children
Lack of 3Rs and personality development
Low grades in Achievement tests
Differences in learning needs
Deficiencies pertaining to the learners body and
mind
Same transaction strategy for all and uniform
evaluation system for all irrespective of individual
abilities
Negative attitude of parents
Points to ponder
Spring of learning skill is innate in every child
We need to extend our trusting hands
Learning pace of each child is different
Comparing the learning achievement of one
with another would invariably hurt ones
feelings.
We cant let a child take longer than school
years to master basic skills
What has to be done here and now cant be
postponed

Studying Peers/ Students
Your job now is to walk around the class room
and find students who can exhibit one of these
intelligences.
Get them to initial your piece of paper. You can
only get one persons initials once.
One cannot sign in ones own sheet.
Have fun with this and try to meet some new
people.
Self- Appraisal
On a sheet of paper, you will write at least one page
on an unforgettable event in your life
In the second page
Write on what intelligences you think you are better
at
what you arent so good at
what you think you can do better in.
Also, give examples of how you are good at these
things.
Write about friends you know who are good at each
of the intelligences, or famous people who are like
you in their abilities.
Suggestions for Students
with different abilities
There is a belief that one can be good at all the types of
intelligences but inevitably one favors certain intelligences.
It is important to know how a student is intelligent so
he/she can do his best to adjust and adapt to what one wants
to learn.
If one is musically smart, he can memorize facts in songs. In
one of the North Eastern States, a math teacher found it
difficult to make his students memorize the mathematics
formulae. But he found them more interested in music and
dance rather than memorizing formulas. ( Lyrics)
If one can dance well, create a dance about certain
stories, or act out a short skit, etc to internalize what he
wishes to learn.
