Muscle palpation
( arm )

Deltoid ( middle )
Pt. position : sitting
Therapist position : standing to the side of pt.
Technique :
- Ask the patient to abduct the arm at the
shoulder joint with elbow joint extended.
- Therapist give resistance to abduction
- Palpating hand placed on the lateral arm,
distal to the acromion process.
Biceps brachii
Pt. position : sitting with arm relaxed and forearm
fully supinated.
Therapist position : sitting to the side of pt.
Technique :
- Ask the patient to flex the arm at the elbow
joint.
- Therapist give resistance to elbow flexion
- Palpating hand placed in the middle of the
anterior arm
Brachialis
Pt. position : sitting with arm relaxed and forearm
fully pronated.
Therapist position : sitting to the side of pt.
Technique :
- Ask the patient to flex the arm at the elbow
joint.
- Therapist give resistance to elbow flexion
-Palpating hand placed on the anterolateral arm
(immediately posterior to the biceps brachii)
coracobrachialis
Pt. position : sitting with shoulder 90 abduction
and elbow flex.
Therapist position : sitting to the side of pt.
Technique :
- Ask the patient to horizontally flexes the arm at
the shoulder joint.
- Therapist give resistance to horizontally flex
shoulder.
-Palpating hand placed on the medial aspect of
the proximal half of the pt.'s arm
Triceps brachii
Pt. position : sitting with the arm relaxed and
hanging vertically, and the posterior forearm
resting on the therapist's thigh
Therapist position : Therapist seated in front of or
to the side of the client
Technique :
-Ask the client to extend the forearm at the elbow
joint by pressing the forearm against therapists
thigh.
-Palpating hand placed on the posterior surface
of the arm.
Anconeus
Pt. position : sitting with the arm relaxed and
hanging vertically, and the posterior forearm
resting on the therapist's thigh
Therapist position : Therapist seated in front of or
to the side of the client
Technique :
-Ask the client to extend the forearm at the elbow
joint by pressing the forearm against therapists
thigh.
-Palpating hand placed between the olecranon
process and lateral epicondyle of humerus.
