HOMOSEXUALITY

DEFINITION
The word homosexual means of the same sex, it came from the
Greek prefix homo (same), and the Latin root sex (gender).

The word homosexuality in the original sense, it describes a sexual


orientation characterized by aesthetic attraction, romantic love or
sexual desire exclusively for others of the same sex or gender.

The term gay is refer to homosexual males. Lesbian is a gender-


specific term that used for homosexual females.

Brief Information
Homosexuality caused by a post-pubertal youth deciding to become
gay or lesbian or they were subjected to a poor parenting.

The first known appearance of the term homosexual in print is found


in an 1869 German pamphlet that was written by the Austrian-born
novelist Karl Maria Kertbeny and published anonymously.

There are many views regarding on homosexuality from each
religion and belief:

Homosexuality in Islam
The Qur'an specifically mentions that same-sex intercourse is
forbidden.

Same-sex intercourse officially carries the death penalty in six


Muslim nations: Saudi Arabia, Iran, Mauritania, Sudan, Somalia and
Yemen.

In Saudi Arabia, the maximum punishment for homosexuality is


public execution, but the government will use other punishments -
e.g., fines, jail time, and whipping

Many contemporary Buddhist orders specifically prohibit transgender
people and homosexual men and women from ordination

Homosexuality in Judaism
The Orthodox tradition generally views homosexual sex as sinful, and
homosexual attraction as out of the norm.

The Reform and Reconstructionism are fully accepting of gay


attraction and sex.

Homosexuality in Sikhism
Sikh (Punjabi) society is generally ultra masculine and conservative.
Toleration of any homosexual behaviour or orientation is bound to meet
outrage or a strong disapproval.

However, other Sikhs believe that Guru Nanak's emphasis on universal


equality and brotherhood is fundamentally in support of homosexuals'
human rights.
Homosexuality in Natural Law
Natural law reasoning is the basis for almost all standard moral
intuitions.
For example, it is the dignity and value that each human being naturally
possesses that makes the needless destruction of human life. This
gives rise to a host of specific moral principles, such as the
unacceptability of murder and kidnapping.
The natural sex partner for a man is a woman, and the natural sex
partner for a woman is a man. Thus, people have the corresponding
intuition concerning homosexuality is wrong because it is unnatural.
Homosexuality in medical view
Homosexual practice are not healthy, this can lead to
transmitted diseases (STDs) as heterosexual patients. HIV/AIDS
is of the greatest concern because of the prognosis. Other
example is syphilis.

The risk factors for STDs include numerous sexual partners,


partners with STDs, lack of safe sex practices, intravenous
drug use, and shared intravenous needles.

According to pro choice view, homosexuality is unacceptable
based on quotes below:

"It is condemned by God." - Christian exegetes

"It leads to plagues and natural disasters." - Christian authorities from


late Antiquity through the Renaissance.
Legal Position
Most developed countries, same-sex relationships are accepted, and
accorded legal protection. Many governments have established formal
structures for confirming legal relationships either as marriage or
partnership between people of the same gender.
In some cultures influenced by ideologies which aren't accepting of
homosexuality, it is still considered unnatural, a perversion and has
been outlawed. In some Muslim nations it remains a capital crime.
In Malaysia
In Malaysia, homosexuality is illegal, enforced by laws that are inherited
from its time as a British colony. The fact that Malaysia is also an
Muslims country proscribes homosexuality as a sin.
In Malaysia, a consenting gay relationship is punishable by up to 20
years jail plus flogging.
In Africa
Africa is the first country in the world that has a constitution that
affirms equality for homosexuals, old apartheid laws that criminalized
homosexuality were at last removed.
In China
Actually no law against homosexuality in the document in China.

The reasons are below:


China is not a country by law but by military and police force.
There are much room for administration punishment in China for
any kind of sexual minorities.
There is no law in document against homosexuality, because the
law maker thought there was no gay in China, but there are some
provision named as hooligan which explanation include sodomy.

In Saudi Arabia
Homosexuality is an offence, the maximum punishment for
homosexuality is public execution or other type of sanction (whipping,
jail time and fines)

In America
U.S. has a law (The Defense of Marriage Act) explicitly prohibiting the
federal government from recognizing "same-sex marriage." Also, 18
states have passed amendments to their respective constitutions aimed
at banning "marriage" between homosexuals. At least 10 other states are
considering them. Massachusetts is the only state to recognize "gay
marriage." It came via court order.

In Great Britain
Great Britain has passed a law legalizing same-sex civil unions, which
grant homosexual couples all the benefits of marriage.
