labs effectively
Safety Precaution
The computer professionals and users should
be aware of safety precaution to be taken
when using the computer. To avoid health
problems and accidents in the computer room
the following safety measure should be
considered.

To protect yourself and equipment, never
tamper with or remove any power cords or
cables (including mouse and keyboard).
To safeguard yourself and equipment,
never attempt to restart or reset equipment
without permission.
To protect yourself and equipment, never
insert a foreign object into a disk drive or
any other part of the computer.

Hazards
Hazards are identified using appropriate processes
with involvement of others, where appropriate.

Typically this will relate to such things as:

The type of job, Electrical conditions, Energy levels,
Radiation levels, Toxic substances, Airborne
particles, Pressure discharge, Explosive atmosphere,
Work-site location, General work-site conditions,
Specific work location, Moving parts, Tools and
equipment, Workers competence and/or capacity
and/or personal effects.
Risks

Risks associated with identified hazards are

determined in consultation with others, where
appropriate, and documented in accordance with
regulations and following established
procedures.

Provision is made to accommodate changes to

documentation should unforeseen hazards be
identified.
Hazards & Risks
User errors - From not powering down properly to
skipping scan disks, a user can seriously damage a
computer's hardware, particularly drives and processors
by not following correct guidance in using their
machine.
Faulty manufacture - years ago there were only a
handful of companies producing PCs now it seems
there are an almost infinite number of manufacturers
and assemblers, some have vast experience and
resources, others are no more than two guys in a garage
so it is not surprising that an increasing number of
computer systems are faulty when bought new.
Hazards & Risks
Bad upgrades - It is not just computers themselves
that are victims of bad workmanship, upgrades by
inexperienced computer fitters can cause horrendous
problems and faulty add-ons such as RAM can kill a
processor instantly. Also attempting to 'overclock' a
processor can often lead to a fatal melt-down.
USB Device Mishaps - It seems everything can be
plugged into a USB these days. However, it maybe that
your USB device is not suited to the operating system
you use or it may be faulty leading to a fatal short
circuit.
Hazards & Risks
Power surge/cut - Power surges or unexpected power
cuts can not only cause instant loss of data but can also
fry a processor rendering it useless. It is not just power
from the grid that causes problems either, lightning can
surge through cables (even phone wires) frazzling your
system and a build up of static can cause similar results.
Dirt/Dust - A dusty environment will clog a computer
and block cooling vents causing a computer to overheat.
Dust can also contain conductive material and particles
can stick to circuit boards and cause a short circuit. A
cloud of dust can also explode if it comes into contact
with a source of ignition (like a computer).
Hazards & Risks
Water/fluids - Of course computers are
electrical and with all electrical equipment,
computers and water do not mix, just one spilt
cup of coffee could see the end of your PC.
Heat - Processors can run exceptionally hot and
if a computers cooling system is inadequate
(because the machine has been upgraded,
overclocked or just clogged up with dust and
grime) it will only be a matter of time before it
packs up for good.
Hazards & Risks
Cold - Just as with heat, computers don't enjoy the
cold too much either. Processors will not operate at
all if the operating temperature is too cold as
condensation inside the machine can freeze and
expand damaging the processor and electronics.
Knocks/bangs - Computers are sensitive machines,
simply moving a PC to another room can cause
havoc, disrupting the delicate circuitry and hard
drives. Dropping a computer or severe knocks and
bangs will permanently damage the circuits and
processors or dislodge wiring.
How To Avoid Hazardous Thing

Computers are powerful machines which can do many

things that a human can't. This is the primary reason why
computers have been a part of our everyday activities from
home, office, and school. There are many uses of computers
which make our work easier and faster to accomplish. We
can use these machines on education, communication,
machinery, household works, and many more. However,
these advantages should not be taken for granted because
there are underlying health hazards associated
with excessive use of computers. It is essential for us to
know the tips to avoid the risks of computer radiation which
could cause severe damage to our health.
How To Avoid Hazardous Thing

We cannot really stop ourselves from using

these machines since they are around us
waiting to use them to make our tasks easier.
The only thing we can do is to avoid
computer health hazards by considering
some important factors. Some of the
dangerous health hazards of using computers
are vision problems, computer
addiction and psychological disorders.
How To Avoid Hazardous Thing

Keep a Good Distance Away from the

Computer Monitor
One of the best ways to avoid computer health
hazards is keeping a good distance from the
monitor of the computer. This is to avoid or
reduce the intensity of radiation which directly
hitting our eyes. The radiation from the
computer could cause several vision
problems especially if our eyes are focused in
the monitor for long number of hours.
How To Avoid Hazardous Thing

Keep the Monitor Properly Leveled with the

Eyes
It is important to keep the eyes leveled with the top of
the monitor to avoid computer health hazards
particularly related to the neck. Most of the time,
computer users suffer from neck pain after working in
front of the computer for long hours. They suffer
neck pain or stiff neck because of the unleveled
position of the monitor to the eyes. It might be higher
or lower to the eyes that the neck needs to move up or
down.
How To Avoid Hazardous Thing

Sit Properly
As much as possible we need to use an ergonomic
chair especially if we always work in front of the
computer for long hours. However, proper sitting is
still the most important to avoid computer health
hazards. Back pain is the most common health
problems suffered by computer users who do not
consider proper sitting posture while using the
computer system. In fact, there are many ergonomic
chairs available in many computer stores at low
prices.
How To Avoid Hazardous Thing
Have a Break
Although there are instances that we really need to
finish what we have started on the computer, we
have to be very aware that our eyes could not
tolerate the radiation for very long hours. We need
to take a break at least once every hour to rest the
eyes as well as to do the stretching exercises for a
few minutes. This is a very important way to avoid
computer health hazards, back pain, stiff neck, and
vision problems are all due to the prolonged use of
the computer without rest.
Important Reminder

Even if there are many tasks that we

need to finish, we don't need to
sacrifice our own health. We need to
consider the above mentioned ways
to avoid computer health hazards.
Remember that our health is still the
most important among any other
things in our life.
