Ethics Both Sociology
Ethics and Sociology

Sociology gives factual knowledge of

social relations while Ethics ideals.
Ethics decides the good and bad in
social conventions, habits, traditions
and the like. In this case, Sociology
and Ethics are related but do not
coincide.
Ethics and Sociology

Sociology is comparatively theoretical study

while Ethics very much affects our practical life.
Ethics tries to seek the ultimate good and its light makes
judgements concerning virtues, duties, good and bad in
social institutions, conventions, authority, and economic
and political laws and so much more. Sociology gives
analyzation of different social phenomena at different
level of society at different perspectives.
Ethics and Sociology

Sociology studies man as a

member of the society. Ethics
studies man as a responsible
individual having freedom of
will, knowledge to know good
from evil and free choice to do
whats right and just.
Ethics and Sociology

Sociology is an objective science while

Ethics is a normative science.
Sociology is methodological. It is more on
claims, method and results. Ethics deals
with type of information that is
developed, presented, or interpreted
based on an assumed, usually unstated,
preference for a particular policy or class
of policies.
Ethics and Sociology

Both are part of Mans life.

Ethics scope includes the idea of
good and bad. Doing good will
make you part of society. No man
can live not being part of
anything or not belonging in one
group in the society.
Ethics and Sociology

Both are dependent with one another.

Ethics is dependent upon sociology for
the description of ultimate good in
relation with society. Ethics is concerned
with the conduct of the individual.
Social Science studies social habits,
conventions and those institutions which
impress man. Thus Ethics depends upon
Sociology and vice versa.
Ethics and Sociology

Both are mutually

complimentary sciences.
Ethics present those ideals in the light of
which social facts are evaluated.
Sociology studies ethical ideals in the
form of facts and describe the conditions
of society is to be understood.
Ethics and Sociology

The method of Ethics is teleological

while sociologys methods are historical,
scientific and empirical.
Sociology looks into cause and effect relation. It
shows studies external behavior of man.Ethics
give their place in the world and comparing
them to ultimate good, describe ethical facts. It
also emphasize in the internal aspect of man
In Sidgwicks words, We only know the individual
man as a member of some society, what we call
his virtues are chiefly exhibited in his dealings
with his fellows and his most prominent
pleasures are derived from inter course with
them, thus it is a paradox to maintain that mans
highest good is independent of his social
relations or of the constitution and condition of
the community of which he forms a part.
Hays writes that man does not do good
acts because God wants such acts or
that they are essential for living in
society but rather because society
accepts them as good and the ethical
thoughts related to such conduct are
inherent in social institutions.
Corne Jo maintains that what is
good is decided by mass
experience. Anybody is good in
comparison with others.
Therefore, goodness is a social
attention.
