Two Cats
Description
What can you learn from the title of the
artwork?
A- I can learn that there are two cats a house,
and theyre outside.
Description
What subjects in the artwork can you recognize?
A- I can recognize two cats.
Description
Looking at the elements of design, describe
what qualities you see.

A- Looking at the elements of design, I see

different colors, some shading underneath the
cats, dark lines separating the cats, and there is
a small amount of space between the cats.
Description
What media and techniques did the artist use?

A- The techniques that the artist used are acrylic

paint, the color black to add value and swirls for
texture.
Analysis
Emphasis: Is there a dominant element or focal
point that you see first?

A- The dominant element that I see first is the

black cat on top of the red ground.
Analysis
Balance: Is there a special balance, or weight,
among the elements? What mood does it
create?
A- There is a balance among the elements, the
artist used many dark colors but added in bright
primary colors which creates a serene mood for
the viewer.
Analysis
Proportion: Do the proportions look normal,
ideal, or unusual? Why?

A- The proportions look normal, since the black

cat is partly turned away, less of its face is
showing which is what you would see if you
were looking at these cats in real life.
Analysis
Pattern: Are elements repeated to create a
pattern? Where? Why?

A-There is no pattern on the cats, even though

they both have swirls, I would not consider it a
pattern.
Analysis
Rhythm or Movement: What visual rhythms or
paths of movement do your eyes follow?
Where? Why?
A- First my eyes see the yellow cat since it is the
brightest thing in the painting, the I see the
black cat and the floor, and the house in the
background is last.
Analysis
Unity and Variety: What elements bring
together, or unify many parts of the design.
Why? What elements add variety? Why?

A-The elements that unify the design are color

and texture, there is just the right amount of
bright and dark colors and the texture makes the
color stand out even more.
Interpretation
Is there symbolism in the artwork? What do you
think it means?
A- The symbolism could be that we all have ald
things in our house since the cats arent in the
house and instead are playing and relaxing but
protecting their young outside while there
seems to be a storm.
Interpretation
What feeling do you think the artist wanted to
give the viewer when looking at the work?

A- I think that the artist wanted to make the

viewer feel calm and serene since the cats seem
to be calm.
Interpretation
Does the work remind you of other things you
have experienced?

A- This reminds me of the black and yellow cats

that live at my grandparents house, they also
like to stay outside.
Interpretation
How does the work relate to other ideas or
events in the world and/or in your other
classes?

A- The cats could relate to Language Arts since

the theme could relate to/be in a written story.
Judgment
What parts of the work make you feel it is a
success or failure?

A- The meaning that the painting seems to give

and the coloring make it seem like a success
since some paintings dont give a meaning as
deep as that.
Judgment
What criteria can you list to help others judge
this work?

A- The color, texture, and detail can be criteria

to judge.
Judgment
How unique is the work? Why do you feel this
work is or is not unique?

A- I think that this work is very unique since I

have never seen this contrast in coloring or
texture before.
Judgment
What are some improvements you feel the artist
could have made to the work?

A- The artist could improve the background

detail and the detail of the ground under the
cats by adding another color so that it doesnt
all blend together.
