Immigration is the international movement of people into a destination country of which
they are not natives or where they do not possess citizenship in order to settle or reside there, especially as permanent residents or naturalized citizens, or to take-up employment as a migrant worker or temporarily as a foreign worker. HOW DOES THIS AFFECT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE POPULATIONS? Many women who are running away from abusers lack identification to receive services. With lack of basic human rights, they are unable to qualify for certain programs that can help them. At Southeastern Family Violence Center, we have a program called Rapid- Rehousing. This program requires a State License. Being an illegal person, the woman and or children are unable to apply for the program. It may take them a while to get citizenship paper work or even get an ID, if permitted.
