From outer space, the Earth

looks BLUE in colour. Thats

THE
BLUE PLANET
because approximately 70% of
the Earth is covered with water
97% of the water on the Earth is salt
water, and only 3% is fresh water of
which slightly over two thirds is frozen in
glaciers and polar ice caps.
The remaining unfrozen freshwater is
mainly found as groundwater, with only a
small fraction present above ground or in
the air.

Multi purpose river project is such a scheme which
serves several purposes at one and the same time
because of their uses they are rightly called the
temples of modern India by Pt. Nehru.
Such projects help in checking floods.
Ample of water is available for irrigation.
These projects help in electricity generation.
They are used for in land navigation and fish-
breeding.
Additional stress in urban areas
Lakes, tanks and ponds being destroyed. Land filled for
construction purposes.

Unsustainable extraction of groundwater in urban areas,

affecting groundwater quality.

Receive sewage that cannot be handled by sewage

treatment plants.

Disposal of solid and liquid wastes

above or into groundwater
aquifers.
This is how the water is distribute on Earth. If
you could see here that is most amount of
water in the oceans.

This is another
graphic about the
worlds water and
how it is distributed.

Here also you could

see that the total
volume in the
hydrosphere of
water is 1.386 km2
(100%)
Fresh water is renewable
resources like soil and air.
The worlds is supplied by
clean and fresh water and it is
decreasing. Water is one of our
most critical resources, but
around the world it is under
threat.
Water demand already
exceeds supply in many
parts of the world and as
the world population
continues to rise, so too
does the water demand.
Rain Water Harvesting
(RWH)- It is a process of
collecting, conveying &
storing water from rainfall
in an area for beneficial
use.
Storage is done in tanks,
reservoirs, underground
storage- groundwater
It is neither energy-
intensive nor labour-
intensive
Install small shower heads to reduce the flow of
the water. Water in which the vegetables & fruits
have been washed - use to water the flowers &
plants.
At the end of the day if you have water left in
your water bottle do not throw it away, pour it
over some plants.
Re-use water as much as possible
Change in attitude & habits for water
conservation
Every drop counts!!!
