- To collect information and data about
the network to enhance the
performance before or after our
customers complaints .
- This done by simulate subscriber
behavior.

1. A laptop computer.
2. Tems investigation software installed already
in the laptop.

About Tems investigation

TEMS Investigation is an air interface test tool for

GSM,UMTS and CDMA cellular networks, supporting
all of:
GSM/GPRS/EGPRS.
WCDMA/HSDPA/HSUPA.
CDMA/cdma2000/1xEV-DO.

It is divided into two modules:

- Data Collection .
- Route Analysis.

Connecting and configuring
hardware
Plugging all the external equipments into the PC
before starting TEMS Investigation.
After Starting TEMS Investigation Data Collection
from the Start menu,
From the navigator pane or equipments
configuration in the configuration menu in the
toolbar, or ctrl & config worksheet
we can open the equipment configuration box as
shown below:

 Nearly all of the external devices supported by
TEMS Investigation are automatically detected and
enabled by the application .

Devices which cannot be detected automatically must be enabled

manually in
the Equipment Configuration window.
By clicking the Add button in the Equipment Configuration window.

 The device COM ports appear in the Port combo boxes of
this dialog.

After finish from adding Equipment the enabled device

appears in the Equipment Configuration window.

Connecting and disconnecting External
Equipment
We can connect the equipments one by on by choosing
the equipment channel and then click connect on the
equipment control toolbar or connect all channels of all
external devices by clicking connect all on the same
connections toolbar:

Tems also allow the user to change the

equipment configuration for example we
can lock MS to work in one mode
(GSM,WCDMA,CDMA),or a certain
frequency band or operator .

Inserting and editing cellfiles and
maps
To open the map window we should go to
any one of the main three pane (navigator,
positioning in presentation menu in toolbar
or map worksheet ) and click on the map.
If our map is in MapInfo format its will be
with .TAB extinction file.

Then by click open in map box and adding the map
tab file.

To edit our map and change its elements properities
from the layer control in the map box tools.

First we need to apply the theme we want for our

equipment (MS1) by clicking edit .
And then choose our equipment name .
Also we can change the cell themes or showing the
cell labels.

Configuring command sequence

In the command sequence we will configure

our DT equipments scenario.
From any one of the three (ctrl and config
worksheet, control menu in menu bar or
from navigator) we can open the command
sequence box as shown below.

After choosing the certain MS we can insert the
number to be dialed , the duration of the call ,timeout
and call type.
In the redial options below we will check all the three
options boxes in redial trigger (timeout , blocked call
and dropped call) to make sure that MS will
continuing establishing calls after those cases.
The duration of the call depend on which scenario we
want to use in our DT.
Also we will use the loop option to enforce our MS to
run the command sequence as much as we need.

After finished from editing our DT command
sequence we can save it for use it in any time or run it
directly.
Also we can change the duration of the call to be
convenes with scenario (short call or long call).

TEMS investigation including alt of windows and
measurements boxes, so we need to focus in the
important widows to get a quick information and
general view about or network .
Again we can open these boxes and windows from
on of the three main menu (presentation, navigator
).
Its recommended to arrange and open each window
in its proper worksheet.

Saving workspace
Tems can save a group of worksheets in one
workspace to be used more than one time so we can
save a workspace for every kind of test scenarios and
used them when we want.

Notices and cautions

Its recommend that we plug the external equipment

we are going to use to the PC before starting TEMS
Investigation.

Unlike certain older versions of TEMS Investigation,

this version does not save any information on
equipment configuration in the workspace.

If you have an open log file, you must close it to be

able to connect equipment.

Make sure that the cell file information are correct

to avoid error in results for example site
overshooting.

log files always record data from all connected

phones, not only the phones that participate in the
command sequence.

To be able to replay a log file, you must disconnect

your external equipments.

 Overshooting
When MS served by a cell at long distance with
acceptable Rx Level were in this area its supposed to
be served by another closer site having approximately
the same signal strength.
The call might be dropped because of the non proper
neighbors relations to make the handover
MS is covered by the serving cell, but its outside the
cell.
This may cause high interference leading to bad
quality.

Solution for this case maybe to down tilt the antenna.

Bing- pong handover

when the MS is handed over from one cell to

another but is quickly handed back to the
original cell.
Ping-pong Handover is caused by no
dominant cell.
overlapping coverage area may cause ping-
pong handover.
Ping pong handovers may lead to dropped
calls.
