Constructivism
During Jean Piaget studying on how the child learns, he
reaches to that people can't transmit the knowledge
from one person to another, but people build their
understanding by link new experience to the
experiences that they already had in a way that the
result can make sense to them. This concept called
constructivism.
The first period: sensorimotor period
(from birth to about age 2)
children begin to learn about the world.
They use all their sensory abilities(touch, taste, sight, hearing, smell,
and muscular).
They use growing motor abilities to grasp, crawl, stand, and
eventually walk.
Children are explorers, and they need chances to use their sensory
and motor abilities to learn basic skills and concepts.
At the end of this period, they developed the concept of object
permanence, the ability of object recognition and the
representational thought.
The second period: preoperational
period (ages 2 to 7 )
In this period children begin to develop concepts that are more like
adult's concepts, but these are still incomplete comparing to what
they will be in adulthood.
During this period, children will try to use speech more than
before to concept knowledge.
Children begin to use concept terms.
Children also use typical behavior in their representational.
Children in this period seem unable to hold the original picture in
their mind.
Children work with the precursors of conservation.
The third period: concrete operational
period (ages 7 to 11)
Children are becoming more skilled at keeping the main image in
their mind and making a mental reversal when there are some
changes in it look.
In this stage, a childs thinking processes are changing at his or her
average.
When the child can memorize numbers, it is kindly an indication
that children are ready to deal with abstract symbolic activities.
The final period formal operational
period (ages 11 through adulthood)
After 11 years children can learn to use scientific methods
independently.
They begin to understand simple concepts and to attack general
snag.
They can imagine solutions before trying to get out of it.
Many adults may not reach it without problem-solving traineeship
or brain-twister activities.
