Parts of the Heart

Right Atrium ~Receives blood from the body

(via vena cava) Aorta
Right Ventricle ~Receives blood from the
Right Atrium; pumps blood to the lungs
Right Atrium
Left Atrium ~Receives blood from the Lungs
(via pulmonary veins)
Left Atrium
Left Ventricle ~Receives blood from the Left
Atrium; pumps blood to the body
Apex ~Base of the heart; strong cardiac Right Ventricle Left Ventricle
muscle
Aorta ~Carries oxygen-rich blood to the body Apex
Parts of the Heart

Right Pulmonary Artery & Left Pulmonary Artery

~Carries blood from heart to the lungs to pick up Superior Right & Left

Artery
Superior Vena Cava ~Oxygen-poor blood from
upper parts of the body returns to the heart
Right Pulmonary Veins & Left Pulmonary Veins
~Receives blood from the body (via vena cavae)
Right & Left
Inferior Vena Cava ~Receives blood from the Right Pulmonary
Atrium; pumps blood to the lungs Veins

Mitral Valve
Mitral Valve ~Controls blood flow from the left
Atrium into left Ventricle Inferior Vena Cava
(back of heart)
Blood Circulation

Blood will travel through the

heart twice and the lungs once
before it returns to the body or head.

1. Find your pulse on your wrist or
neck.
2. Count how many beats in 30
seconds then multiply by 2.
Summary

We learned the parts of the heart

We learned the location of the parts of the heart
We learned the job of each part of the heart
We learned how the blow flows through the heart
We learned how to find our pulse and find our
heart rate
Check for Understanding
