SYSTEM OF

EDUCATION IN
POLAND
The structure of
education
Kindergart
en
Children aged 3-6 attend them.
5, 6 year olds attend classes which are
called zero level.
There are also kindergarten units at
primary schools as well as at other
educational institutions.
Primary Schol
It lasts six years and is divided into two parts:
Stage I early school education, no visible division into
subjects classes I III children 7( 6) 9 year old.
Stage II typical division into subjects classes IV VI
children 10 -12.
Subjects covered at this stage:
Polish,
one foreign language,
mathematics,
history and society
nature,
music,
art,
technology,
computer studies ,
P.E. ( including swimming),
religion or ethics,
family education.
General competence test
In 6th grade all students take
national test which is the same for
every student.
The test has no influence
whatsoever on the final grade or
the application to the lower
secondary school.
Lower secondary
school
Stage III education of various subjects classes I
III teenagers 13 16 year old.

Subjects covered at this stage:


Polish,
two foreign languages,
music,
art,
history,
knowledge of society,
geography,
biology,
chemistry,
physics,
mathematics,
computer studies,
P.E,
safety,
technology.
Final exam
Students who want to graduate must take this
exam:
it takes place in the 3rd grade,
it is combined of three parts: mathematics-
nature, humanistic and language.
a student must take it in order to graduate,
the admission to upper secondary school
depends on the results of this exam.
Upper secondary
education
There are numerous forms of this type of schools:

Vocational schools - lasting three years and allowing for


acquiring qualifications,
General secondary school lasting three years, at the end
students pass matura exam which allows them to get school-
leaving examination certificate,
Specified secondary school lasting three years, at the end
students pass matura exam which allows them to get school-
leaving examination certificate,
Technical secondary school, lasting four years and allowing for
reception of a diploma confirming qualifications, at the end they
can also pass matura exam which allows them to get school-
leaving examination certificate,
Post secondary school, lasting no longer than two and a half
years, it allows students to pass matura exam as well as acquire
basic vocational qualifications.
Higer education
I stage studies those with matura certificate are
allowed to receive a licence allowing for working ina
certain field lasting usually three years. Students
graduating receive Bachelors degree.
II stage studies the continuing stage allowing the
students to get Masters degree, usually lasting two
years time.
Uniform Masters degree those with matura
certificate are allowed to get the degree after a time
of around five years.
III stage Doctorate studies,
Post diploma studies those students who possess I
stage diploma are allowed to expand their field of
knowledge and acquire new qualifications,
Full time studies
Part time studies
