Part II 3G RAN Swap Description
Part III Swap Case Introduction
SWAP Principle
ZTE 3G RAN Swap Proposal Delivers to customer...

ZTE offers a complete low-risk Stability

solution, including: Reduced network disruptions
during swap (QoS, handovers)

A common definition of the best swap High quality

strategy to meet expectations of Proper network optimization,
customer equal to or better than existing
A strong and experienced project
management organization to keep Swift operation
schedules and quality under strict control On-time project completion
The use of proper tools, of highly qualified
manpower, of certified subcontractors in
sufficient quantity Security
A strong emphasis on network Continuity of service
optimization Minimum downtime
Abundant backup in lab and factory to
solve possible issues Cost
Tight cost control TCO Savings
SWAP Strategy
Like for Like Swap: to swap the existing equipment with the same type
and same configuration.

Maximum reuse the resource of the sites transmission links; antenna

system and power system; All the existing RF components (e.g. TMA,
RCU couples, combiners, hybrids) and UMTS antennas will be re-used
as possible.

Before mass swap the existing site, a trial of 10 sites is to be implemented.

Strategies Service disruption time during swap is minimized as possible. The
Solutions for Very important sites or hot spot areas is proposed.

If 2G and 3G co-locate in the same site, swap 3G first, then 2G.

Swap will be conducted in the maintenance window after 11:00 PM as

possible.

Swap out from low-traffic areas to high-traffic areas.

Key Factors to Impact NodeB SWAP
Three key factors (site space, transmission and power system) are critical during
NodeB swap, we consider the following scenarios :

Item Description
Situation 1: Sufficient spare space
Install the new NodeB according to the design.
Situation 2: Insufficient spare space
Site space Find a temporary space for pre-commissioning, and then install the new
equipment in the original location of the old equipment, or dismantle the
original equipment and install the new equipment at swap timeframe.
For detailed solution, refer to the following slides.

Situation 1: Sufficient standby transmission

Transmission Use the existing standby transmission to perform pre-commissioning.
system Situation 2: Insufficient standby transmission
LMT+BDE is adopted for offline pre-commissioning .

Situation 1: Sufficient DC power capacity

Use the existing power system to perform pre-commissioning.
Situation 2: Insufficient DC power capacity
Power system Supply a portable rectifier as the temporary power supply during the Pre-
commissioning.
Situation 3: Insufficient AC/DC power capacity
Pre-commissioning off-site.
