SEMINARS
■ You are encouraged to attend as many seminars as possible, on any subject that is of
interest for you, within the University or outside.
■ If you are unsure whether the seminar you attended is eligible for one of the abstract
submissions please contact the module leader.
■ There are regular seminars organised by the School of Life Sciences, typically on FRIDAYS, 1-
2PM, JBL 3C01. These typically feature external and internal speakers and they are eligible
for abstract submissions.
■ Exact dates, venue, time, titles and speakers will be advertised through the SoLS blackboard
site.
■ As the seminars you will attend are your own choice, these are not timetabled and it’s up to
you to organise your attendance of a good proportion of these, taking into account your other
commitments.
■ If the dates and times are not suitable for you or you want to attend more seminars, bear in
mind that the other Schools also organise seminars in JBL that might be of interest for you.
These are normally advertised to the broad JBL community.

Assessment
■ COURSEWORK 1: Press release (ideally 400 words, maximum 500) relative to a recently
published or about to be published research article on biosciences (preferably a research
paper authored by an academic you can talk to). Weight is 50%. Deadline is in WEEK 9,
FRIDAY 24 NOVEMBER 2017.
■ COURSEWORK 2: Research seminar abstracts capturing the content of three research
seminars attended (300 words each); the coursework consists of either three separate
submissions with feedback provided between each submission, or a submission of all three
abstracts together. In both cases, the first abstract weights 10% of the total while the
subsequent two abstracts are each weighted 20% for a total of 50%. The abstracts can be
submitted anytime by email (eferrari@lincoln.ac.uk), the last one or the bulk submission not
later than WEEK 16, FRIDAY 12 JANUARY 2018. If you opt for submitting three abstract in
bulk, use the relevant Turnitin link instead of emailing the abstracts. Feedback for the first
and second abstract submissions will be given on WEEK 10, FRIDAY 1 DECEMBER 2017 and
WEEK 12, FRIDAY 15 DECEMBER 2017 respectively. Abstracts submitted after these
deadlines will receive feedback on the next available session.
