PURPOSE- ENTERTAIN

One purpose of the documentary Amy is to entertain the audience, a way in which the producers have
done this is by including archival footage of when she was younger to show the audience parts of her life.
 PURPOSE INFORM

The second purpose of Amy is to inform the audience about Amy’s life. The producers use real life footage
(actuality) to show the audience what her life was like. There are also interviews with her friends and family
and with people she worked with so that they were able to tell the audience more about her too.
 PURPOSE- RAISE AWARENESS

Another purpose of the documentary Amy is to raise awareness of the effects of alcohol and drugs. A way in which
the producers do this is by using archival footage and stills of Amy when she was drinking or when she had used
drugs they did this to shock the audience which would also raise awareness.
 CODES AND CONVENTIONS

One code and convention which is used a lot throughout the documentary is archival footage. This is
used because it is meant to show the stages in her life, therefor there are videos and images from when
she was younger.

Another code and convention used in the documentary is mediation, this is used by only including
bad footage of her dad to make him look worse, however these may have been the only footage they
had because amys dad complained about the film after it was made and said that it paints a bad
picture of him.

Another code and convention used is interviews, there are interviews with her friends and family who tell us
more about amys life.
