Dear Representative Pittenger,

My name is Tasmon Bullard and I am a student with the University of North Carolina at
Pembroke. I work as an intern with Southeastern Family Violence Center, volunteering to help
women and children who have experienced abuse from a loved one.
My goal while working with SFVC is to help women and children cope with the everyday
struggles along with the abuse they experience. An issue that concerns me with SFVC is the
amount of space they have at the domestic violence shelter. This is an issue to me because the
space is very limited. The shelter consists of an old modern house that sleeps up to 23 people
including children. Once all beds are full the shelter isn't allowed to accept more victims.
On the behalf of Southeastern Family Violence Center, I would like to address this issue. I would
like to request information about how SFVC could open more shelters around Robeson County.
This is a very oppressed population in our area that needs help overcoming the trauma of abuse.
By providing more shelters, we are providing more information and resources to women and
children. So, I kindly ask for your response on how we can move forward to resolve this issue.
