• 6 Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to


inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.
• 7 “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my
servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left,
that you may be successful wherever you go.
• 8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day
and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.
Then you will be prosperous and successful. 9 Have I not commanded
you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be
discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you
go.”

INTRODUCTION

The very popular author, speaker and


leadership mentor John Maxwell always says
“Leadership is influence “. Joshua is an example
of a person influenced by a great and famous
leader and man of God named Moses.
I. JOSHUA‘S BIRTH
Joshua’s original name in Hebrew is
Yehoshua which means “Yahweh is salvation
“He was born a slave in Egypt. He was the son
of Nun, from the tribe of Ephraim. (Son of
Joseph).
II. JOSHUA’S ATTRIBUTES
1. Brilliant military leader
2. A great follower
3 .With Solid rock Faith
4. Humble servant
5 .Man of Prayer
6. Man of God’s words

WEAKNESS OF JOSHUA
A. Joshua's Strengths
- Joshua was an attentive student, learning much from
a great leader.
-Joshua showed tremendous courage despite the huge
responsibility assigned to him.
-He was a brilliant military commander.
-He is a very patient assistant

B-Joshua's Weaknesses
Joshua committed a mistake when he did not
consulted the Lord when the people of Gibeon from
(Canaan) entered into a deceptive treaty with Israel.
IV- SIGNIFICANCE OF “BATON”
IN THE LIFE OF JOSHUA
• Joshua is the recipient of the baton ( Moses ‘
successor )
• Joshua has the same dream and desire with Moses –
to reach the promises land – Canaan the land flowing
with milk and honey
• Joshua was chosen by God to be Moses’ successor.-
APPLICATION
Just like Joshua we must follow a leader who has
an intimate relationship with God, guided much by the
word of God and has good influence to many for we
can expect success and prosperity from his influence
on us.
CONCLUSION
Mentoring is far more than the words that are
spoken by the mentor, what matters most is your entire
godly life is displayed which some younger people
can be influenced, can learn from you or follow your
example .
