the classroom is
complex and
involves a number
of areas designated
for student

• Miss Miller designed her class
with a 'center' devoted to
listening, reading, writing and

BULLETIN BOARD
• Miss Miller prepared the students to work
independently and collaboratively for the first
six weeks.
• The first day, Ms. Miller taught the students
about 'cues', the time when to gather on the
carpet, and the time when you need to seat
each.
• At times, pupils can talk among themselves, but
when they gather in the carpet, they have to
raise their hands if they want to talk.
• Ms. Miller prepared a poster with the day’s
schedule and “center time” clearly stated.
• She explained the poster before posting it on
highly visible bulletin board.
• She made a habit of referring to the poster
during the first weeks of school when giving
the students instructions for activities.
• The first few weeks, Ms. Miller presented and
demonstrated related to the ‘centers’.
• Each ‘center’ has 2 signs:
1. The procedures for the center
2. The capacity of that center
• Ms. Miller explained that the students may
sign up to the centers every morning.
• During 'free time center', students are free to
choose 'center' and have to cut column name
on the list when you want to leave 'center', so
that other students can use it anyway.
• During 'center assigned time', Ms. Miller
herself will decide who will be in the 'centers’.
• Ms. Miller monitor so that each 'center' used
well as well as ensuring students understand
the use of a 'center' before 'center' other use.
• Any problems will be discussed when they are
gathered in the carpet.

Discussion on Case
“Using Centers in
Multitask
Classrooms”
Using Centers in Multitask Classroom
talks about the complex classroom
management that involve the used of
space for the students to carry out
activities.
Early planning of MISS MILLER REGARDING
TO CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

STATION
s
 A class should have a few learning station for them to
practice listening, reading, writing and creativity.
 A daily schedule and station time
 Rules and regulations for each station
 Introduce “ free station time” where students are free
to choose which center that they like.
SIGNING UP THEIR NAME IN THE
MORNING
WRITING THEIR NAME WHEN THEY
WANT TO GO OUT
• This is to prepare the student to work
independently as well collaboratively.
• Students are taught to listen to command when
asked to gather around and when asked to go
back to their own seats.
• Daily schedule for each station are well-
prepared.
 Student need to raise their hands
to ask questions or to talk.
Station time for students
Teacher need to ensure that
student visit the station at least
once a day.
Students need to sign for
attendance each morning before
class.
 Clear instructions need to be given
to students.
Example:
 Teacher asking the student that are able
read by their own to go back to their
own place to do their reading
meanwhile the others read loudly with
each other in the station.
The teacher end the lesson by asking
the students to maintain cleanliness of
the station.
Presentation and
observation
• Miss Miller always ask questions to the students.
 Eg: is it done?
• The instruction given are clear and easy to understand.
• The students are encourage to ask questions.
• Miss Miller will solve the problem that is faced by the
students in the “rug time”.(Brainstorming)
• Miss Miller will make sure every students visit the
station that is set up earlier.
• Assigned time station-make sure the student visit to
the station.
• She will guide each station carefully and
make sure the student understand the use of
each station before another station is
introduced.
• Even when all the station has been introduce,
she will still continue the guidance and look
through the problem that is face and discuss
during ‘rug time’.
• Miss Miller concerns to balance the station
that is not visited so that the objective in the
station can achieve.
• Whereas the other station will still function
where the students move independently.
