ACTIVITY-
• Observe the video and make a mind map.

• GROUP ACTIVITY-

1. Write a letter to your friend, explaining heart diseases.

2. Make a science journal/ a poster explaining main causes of heart
diseases.
3. Analyze why there is an increase in heart diseases these years.
Coronary arteries and heart attack?
 The muscles of the heart are so thick that the
nutrients and oxygen in the blood inside the
heart would not be able to diffuse to all the
muscles quickly enough.
 The heart muscles needs a constant supply of
nutrients so that it can keep contracting and
relaxing. The coronary arteries supply this.

If a coronary artery gets blocked –

 e.g. by a blood clot – the cardiac muscles
run short of oxygen --> they can not
respire --> cells die-can not obtain
energy to contract --> heart
stops beating.
 This is called a heart attack or cardiac
arrest.
How is blood clot formed inside the coronary artery?

Cholesterol molecules slip below the

endothelium of the coronary arteries- forming
a plaque.
Inflammation cause the plaques to burst
easily.
If the plaque burst. blood clots form and block
the blood to the heart.
The muscles of the heart is starved of
nutrients and oxygen and death of tissue may
occur.
Resulting in heart attack or cardiac arrest.

Blockage of the coronary arteries is called coronary heart disease.

 The pulse rate is a measurement of the heart rate, or the number of
times the heart beats per minute.
 usually measured to obtain a quick evaluation of a person's health.
 A normal resting heart rate for adults ranges from 60 to 100 beats a
minute.
 Generally, a lower heart rate at rest implies more efficient heart function
and better cardiovascular fitness.
 For example, a well-trained athlete might have a normal resting heart
rate closer to 40 beats a minute.
What is blood pressure?
What is pacemaker?

A pacemaker is a small device that's placed in the

chest or abdomen to help control abnormal heart
rhythms. This device uses electrical pulses to prompt
the heart to beat at a normal rate.

How to treat coronary heart diseases?

medications Surgery

Aspirin-Aspirin “thins” the

blood and helps prevent blood Stent, by-pass surgery
clots from forming. So it
helps prevent heart and angioplasty
attack and stroke.-
