IN THE EVENT OF FIRE

 USE CALL POINT


 SHUT THE DOORS
 DON’T RUN
 TRACK THE SIGNS OF EXIT
 GATHER AT ASSEMBLY POINT
SAFE EVACUATION

 Approach the nearest available Fire Exit


 Do not come back for Valuables and others
 Never use Lifts
 Never re enter building until unless you instructed by
authorities
MEANS OF ESCAPE

 all exit routes must remain free from obstruction


 There must be emergency escape lighting in the
corridor

SOURCES OF FUEL

 FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS
 Butane
 FLAMMABLE GASES
 Hydrogen, Methane, ethane, Acetylene
 CARBONAECOUS MATERIALS
 Wood, Paper (tissues, books cardboard
(boxes), foam and plastics (packing materials
and office paperwork), contents of
upholstered furniture), textiles (clothing,
curtains).
SOURCES OF IGNITION

 NAKED FLAMES
 HOT SURFACES
 . Hotplates
 FAULTY ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT
 MACHINERY
FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS

 These require to be properly stored in a fire rated


cabinet
 These should have appropriate signage on them
 Avoid excess storage of solvents
 Should be handled in well ventilated areas ( Fume
Cupboards)
 Waste should be disposed of regularly
 Fume Cupboards should not be used as storage areas
FLAMMABLE GASES

 Need to be secured
 Regulators and accessories suitable for the purpose
 Leak testing should be carried out
P.A.T TESTING

 All Electrical equipment should be subject to


P.A.T.Testing
 Extensions leads should be tested and ensure they are
not being overloaded
FIRE DOORS
 All Fire Doors must be kept closed
 when marked as Fire Door keep Shut
 Unless they are electronically designed to shut on a fire activation
FIRE DETECTION
AND
WARNING
 In some buildings there will be voice
activated warning
 In others either bells or sounders
 There is Smoke Detection in corridors
,stairwells, and some laboratories
 There is Heat Detection in plant rooms
and kitchen areas
 The alarm must be audible in all areas
