Proteleum is used in a natural or refined state as fuel , or
separated by distillation into petrochemicals such as petrol (gasoline ). Benzene, kerosene and paraffin. From the well.the Crude is usually transported to a refinery in pepilines or tanker ship. There the hydrocarbons are separated from each other by various refining processes. In a process called fractional distillation petroleum is heated and sent into a tower. The vapours of the different components condense on collectors at different heights in the tower. The separated fractions are then drawn from the collectors and further proccesed into various petroleum products, for example gasolin or asphalt. Cracking processes use heat, presure, and certain catalysts to break up the large molecules of heavy hydrocarbons into small molecules of light hydrocarbon. Some heavier fractions find eventual use as lubricating oils and paraffin. Today the word is heavily dependent on the potreleum for power, lubrication , fuel dyes, and many synthetics. The widespread use of petroleum has created serious environmental probelms: air pollution from burnt fuels contaminates the atmosphere and oil spillages from tankers and offshore wells pollute oceans and coastlines B. after refining. The petroleum is transported to the refinery. Depending on the end use.
