CORE COMPETENCY: 1

•Demonstrate Ethical and


Professional Behavior
PRACTICE BEHAVIOR: 1.1

• Make ethical decisions by applying standards of the NASW Code of


Ethics, relevant laws and regulations, models for ethical decision-
making, ethical conduct of research, and additional codes of ethics
as appropriate to context.
• Use the NASW when faced with ethical dilemmas. Take into
account all ethical principles that relate to specific cases.
PRACTICE BEHAVIOR: 1.2

• Use reflection and self-regulation to manage personal values and


maintain professionalism in practice situations.
• Make sure my personal values are managed in a way so that they
won’t influence what they would like to do. Can offer client’s
options with possible outcomes as a guide for them to decide
what they would like to do. Maintain professionalism while
allowing client’s right to self-determination.
PRACTICE BEHAVIOR: 1.3

• Demonstrate professional demeanor in behavior,


appearance, and oral, written, and electronic
communication.
• Being punctual and complying with the set schedule.
Complete all assignments in a timely manner. Refrain from
derogatory language, both verbal and written.

• Use technology ethically and appropriately to facilitate


practice outcomes.
• When communicating with others through the use of
technology, I should be mindful of confidentiality. Avoid
using client’s name in emails that could possibly be
shared, unintentionally or intentionally.

professional judgement and behavior.
• Make great use of my supervisor to improve
personal growth, as well as professional

PRACTICE BEHAVIOR: 2.1

• Apply and communicate understanding of the importance of diversity and difference in shaping life
experiences in practice and the micro, mezzo, and macro levels.
• Diversity is an integral part of the client’s life. In practice, it is necessary to address biases between
culturally diverse individuals. At my placement, I will take the knowledge and understanding of diversity
to better serve the population. Clients are different and as a BSW candidate, being personally aware
that diversity occur is pertinent.
PRACTICE BEHAVIOR: 2.2

• Present themselves as learners and engage clients and constituencies as


experts of their own experiences.
• Allow clients to be put in a position to where they are “experts” at their own
life. Can empower clients to take control back over their life to make decisions
that they see best fit in regard to their own experiences of diversity. It will
allow me to learn from the client in many ways. For example, I can take more
time to find out more about a client’s tradition and cultural to gain a better
understanding of what the clients life is really like.

• Apply self-awareness and self-regulation to manage the influence of personal


biases and values in working with diverse clients and constituencies
• Self-awareness is important to gain a better understanding of one’s own
values. Personal values must be controlled so it will not interfere with practice
when serving clients. Personal values and beliefs can affect practice and how
the client interacts with the helping professional. To limit the influence of
personal biases and values, it is necessary to become culturally competent
before engaging with a client.

PRACTICE BEHAVIOR: 3.1

• Apply understanding of social, economic, and


environmental justice to advocate for human rights
at the individual and system levels.
• Can read up on services and resources to learn how
it can impact services.

• Engage in practices that advance social,


economic, and environmental.
• Arranged transportation for a student to
get glasses.

• Use practice experience and theory to

• Used student outcomes to measure

• Apply critical thinking to engage in analysis of


qualitative and quantitative research methods and
research findings.
• I can research an intervention further used by my
agency. Then, share my findings with my supervisor.

• Take the research to inform my practice. I can become
more aware of who might be a possible candidate for
retention. Help me become planful about getting them set
up with resources and interventions.

• Looking into the No Child Left Behind (NCLB)
Act to see how it affects children and impact
service delivery.
PRACTICE BEHAVIOR: 5.3

• Apply critical thinking to analyze, formulate, and advocate


for policies that advance human rights and social,
economic, and environmental justice.
• Advocate for donations for food for backpack buddies and
clothes for RFES Clothing Closet to assist those who may
be in assistance.

PRACTICE BEHAVIOR: 6.1
• Apply knowledge of human behavior and the social
environment, person-in-environment, and other
multidisciplinary theoretical frameworks to engage with
clients and constituencies.
• When assessing my client for my case presentation, I’ll use
an ecomap to better understand the client and their
environment.
PRACTICE BEHAVIOR: 6.2

• Use empathy, reflection, and interpersonal


skills to effectively engage diverse clients and
constituencies.
• Using skills such as clarifying, reflection, and
paraphrasing to ensure understanding of the
client.

PRACTICE BEHAVIOR: 7.1

• Collect and organize data, and apply critical thinking to


interpret information from clients and constituencies.
• During SST meetings, there are a lot of notes that the
teachers’ bring. I observed the use of those forms that
determine who may need extra help. I was also shown
how to analyze the students’ chart for accuracy.

• Apply knowledge of human behavior and the social


environment, person-in-environment, and other
multidisciplinary theoretical frameworks in
interventions with clients and constituencies.
• Analyzed results of client’s assessments with my
supervisor and the counselor for better
understanding.

• Develop mutually agreed-on intervention goals and


objectives based on the critical assessment of strengths,
needs, and challenges within clients and constituencies.
• Actively participated in a SST meeting to develop goals
and interventions to reach the child’s needs.

• Critically choose and implement interventions to


achieve practice goals and enhance capacities of
clients and constituencies
• Looked into intervention options for parents that
could benefit children to reach their academic goals
at home.
PRACTICE BEHAVIOR: 8.2

• Apply knowledge of human behavior and the social environment,


person-in-environment, and other multidisciplinary theoretical
frameworks in interventions with clients and constituencies.
• Created a document folder of resources which included those that
assist children in Christmas gifts, clothes, food, or any possible
resource that have been used in the past. This way, all resources
are organized and easily accessible.
PRACTICE BEHAVIOR: 8.3
• Use inter-professional collaboration as
appropriate to achieve beneficial practice
outcomes.
• Sat in on meetings with the fire marshal and a
student who sought interest in fires (which is
hazardous) to gain updates on where they are
in achieving the best outcome.

• Negotiate, meditate, and advocate, with


and on behalf of diverse clients and
constituencies
• Help problem solve with individuals who
come into the office with a problem or
issue.
PRACTICE BEHAVIOR: 8.5

• Facilitate effective transitions and endings that

• Sat in on follow-up SST meetings to see progress.
Follow up SST meetings can determine if more
interventions are needed or if interventions need to
be discontinued.

PRACTICE BEHAVIOR: 9.1

• Select and use appropriate methods for evaluation of


outcomes
• I could conduct a survey for teachers and assistants to
gain knowledge on their experiences with the
interventions that were put in place for children to reach
their academic goals.
PRACTICE BEHAVIOR: 9.2

• Apply knowledge of human behavior and the social


environment, person-in-environment, and other
multidisciplinary theoretical frameworks in the
evaluation of outcomes.
• Evaluated the teacher’s notes on assessment and
SST notes to ensure they are working to reach the
goals of the child.
PRACTICE BEHAVIOR: 9.3

• Critically analyze, monitor, and evaluate intervention and


program processes and outcomes.
• I attended a staff meeting where the progress of the
school is evaluated. This also serves as a chance to see if
any changes need to be made to make improvement or
not.
PRACTICE BEHAVIOR: 9.4

• Apply evaluation findings to improve


practice effectiveness at the micro, mezzo,
and macro levels.
• If I have some, I could offer suggestions to
my supervisor as to how to improve
practice.
