My Personal Philosophy
Statement
My philosophy is to create a fun filled
environment where students will want
to learn, and that they will feel safe,
respected, and wanted. I believe all
students are teachable, if you teach
them in the way they learn.
Introductory Letter
Hello first grader!
My name is Mrs. Mixon and I am so excited to be your teacher
this year! We are going to learn new and exciting things this year together. I
want to know all about you, but first I would like to tell you a few things
about myself.
I learned how to be a teacher at Wesleyann College. I love
teaching and working with children just like you. I have a wonderful
husband named Brian and two beautiful daughters named Brittany and
Makayla. I also have a dog named Fenix! He is a German Sheppard and loves
to cuddle. Here are a few of my favorite things! MRS. MIXON!
• Color- Light Blue
• Hobby- Roller Skating
• Disney Movie- Little Mermaid
• Vacation- Beach
I cannot wait to see what this year will have in store for us!
Love,
Mrs. Mixon
First Day Of School
• Greet students and parents at the door
• Direct students to find their name on the tables and assure parents that their children will be fine
• Have a What a Great Summer worksheet on their table. They can draw a picture of what they did over the summer.
• Go over procedure for lunch count and attendance rules (I will model for the students)
• Introduce myself and allow the students to introduce themselves. (4 count beat, say name, and one of their favorite things
to do)
• Play Go Noodle (This will help students move around and have fun)
• Read the Pete the Cat Rocking in my New Shoes (Go over carpet procedures, read aloud book, make predictions, use anchor
chart to write down some of their responses)
• Teach and practice procedures throughout the day: getting the teachers attention, lining up , pencil sharpener, unpacking
book bags, school supplies, bathroom, hallway, water fountain, how to turn in papers, emergency procedures, dismissal
• I will model each procedure correctly and allowed the students to practice.
Behavior Management Plan
• Fire drill procedures. Students line up quietly at the door and exit the building to the assigned
area. Teacher takes attendance. Hold a green card if all the students are counted for. Hold up a yellow
card if all the students aren’t counted for but the teacher knows where that child is. Hold up a red
card if a child is missing. There will be a administrator coming around and checking cards.
• Severe weather procedures. The office will monitor the weather. The office will let us know if we
need to go to the assigned area for severe weather. Students line up quietly to go to the assign area,
for severe weather. Students should sit on the floor, with backs to wall, draw up their knees, lean
forward and place their hands or a book over their heads. Teacher takes attendance, then notify the
office if you have a student missing or have gained a student.
• Lock down procedures. This happens when something dangerous is outside or inside the school.
Code Yellow- Check the hall and make sure all students are in a classroom. Allow any student to
enter your room, then notify the office of extra students you may have. Lock your doors and
windows, check for any suspicious items in the room then continue with normal classroom activities
until the all clear is given over the intercom.
Code Red-Immediately lock your classroom door, cover your door window, remain on the floor and
quiet. Check for any suspicious items in your room. Do not open the door for anyone until a Police
Officer or Administrator comes to your room and personally instructs you to go to “Code Yellow”.
Students who are locked out of their room will go to the office or take cover in the nearest safe place
they can find.
• Put sign folders in the sign folder bin and homework in the homework bin
• Read morning agenda written on the board: list of books the students will need,
morning work directions, specials for the day, lunch choices
• Restroom time
• Use an attention grabber to get my students attention. For an example, Teacher says “
Macaroni & cheese,” students say, “ Everybody Freeze.” I will say this several times.
• When the students hear the attention grabber, they will automatically clean up their area and
get ready for lunch.
• On Fridays I will sit with the student who has the most Do Jo points and give a free ice cream
ticket.
• I am constantly looking for smooth transitions. If the transition is smooth I will hand out DoJo
points for the whole class or individual.
Hallway Expectations
1st- after morning announcements. 2nd - before lunch. 3rd - after recess. 4th - after snack
• The boys will line up by the boys restroom and the girls will line up by the girls restroom.
If it is emergency the students can make the sign language sign for the bathroom.
• They will sign their name on the plates. This way, I will know who is out the room.
• If a student abuses the bathroom breaks, they will have two options:
Go to the bathroom and give me 5 min of recess or wait until the next classroom break.
Classroom Jobs
• We will change jobs every week.
• Jobs are earned by the amount of DoJo Points they received the previous week.
• The students who has the highest Dojo points pick the jobs first, then I will allow the other students to
pick, starting with the highest Dojo points going to the least Dojo points.
JOBS IN MY CLASSROOM
• Line leader and Caboose- will keep the line straight and in order
• Door helper- will hold door for the class, make sure the doors are closed, open Classroom door for
visitors.
• Teacher Helper- Star Student (this student showed progress in their school work and behavior in the
previous week). This student will help the teacher with errands.
• Trash Helper- will make sure all the trash is picked up and put in the trash.
• Boy and Girl Restroom Monitor- will be in charge of taking names of students who are misbehaving and
passing out soap and paper towels.
