Definition:
Anesthesia is known everyday as an anesthetic. The drug or
anesthetic agent will remove some or all of the feelings. There
are three types of anesthesia: general, regional and local. When a
patient is given general anesthesia, they will completely lose
consciousness.
General anesthesia may be given in several methods. The most
common method is to inject the drug into the blood vessels, and
with the anesthetic gas provided through the mask. Sometimes
also these two methods are applied simultaneously to the patient.
General anesthesia considerations
The anesthesiologist checks you to assess whether
you are fit for general anesthesia or for surgery.
Some of the things considered in general
anesthesia include:
1.Historical health, including
your current health condition,
such as diabetes or heart
problems

2.History of previous
surgery (surgery)
3.Arigger, for example if
you are allergic to certain
foods or medications

4. Medicines that you

currently consume,
including cigarettes
and alcohol.
Some other things that may be applied to you
before undergoing surgery include:
1. Eat and drink -
usually you are told
not to eat or drink a
few hours before
surgery

2. Shaving 3. Other procedures -

(shaving) - hair or you may be required
hair around the to apply some things
surgery site may or other preoperative
need to be shaved procedures.
General anesthesia procedure
1.Several hours before the
operation begins, you may be
given a "pre-med," ie an
injection or tablet medicine
that will make you sleepy or
more relaxed.

2.Then you are taken

to the operating room.
3. An anesthetic doctor will
inject intravenous drugs
(into the bloodstream) or
by using a gas mask, or
both

4. Next, the anesthesia doctor

inserts a small tube connected
to the ventilator into your
airway.
5.After surgery is complete, you may
be injected with other medications
that will reverse the effects of
anesthetic or other medications used
during the surgery process (such as
muscle relaxant drugs).

6.When the anesthesiologist is

satisfied with the stability of
your breathing and your blood
circulation, you will be taken to
the recovery room where there is
a special officer who will handle
you.
Post general anesthesia
Once the surgery process is done, the hospital staff will:

1. Record your
breathing, your pulse
and blood pressure
2. Monitoring awareness
levels, as well as other
post-operative special
observations

3. Remember all the

intravenous fluids
