• This week, my students are getting ready to learn
about cells, and the process of Mitosis. An easy
way to remember the different steps is to
I- interphase
remember PMATI.
• Another concept that my students have learned
KEYWORD METHOD recently, is the Geologic Time Scale. An easy way to
remember the eras is to remember Pizza Places
Make Chicken.
SUPERIMPOSED MEANINGFUL STRUCTURE

• There are many ways to remember the order of the planets, and
using an acronym is the most common. Students can remember the
order of the planets using “MVEMJSUN”. An easy way to remember
this is to think of the acronym sounding like “move-em-jason”
TRAIN OF THOUGHT ACTIVITY

• For the train of thought activity, I did a class activity instead of interviewing just a single student. I
wanted to see the different thoughts of the kids since seventh grade involves so many ages. There were
mainly 12 and 13 year olds so although one year doesn’t seem like much, I believe that one year
changes their thought process a lot. I made my own worksheet for my students, that had four spots for
four train of thoughts. I first showed my students my train of thought to explain what a train of thought
is. I then did another example with the students on the board. After the students understood the
process, I let them do two on their own and gave them a list of words to choose from.
TRAIN OF THOUGHT ACTIVITY CONT.
TRAIN OF THOUGHT ACTIVITY CONT.

• I think that this activity went well with the students, they struggled a little but that is because they were
thinking too in depth about it.
WHAT OPPORTUNITIES DO THE STUDENTS HAVE TO
SOCIALIZE? HOW IS THIS MANAGED?

• Students are able to socialize between classes, for four minute intervals, and once the class starts, they
must remain silent while the teacher is talking. They also can talk to each other in the hallways before
and after class, and again during lunchtime.
Q&A
1. How do you know exactly which standards to teach the students each day?
 There are state standards that are divided into grading periods. We develop a pacing guide that determines
which standards and which sections of the book are taught at what time. We also collaborate with other grade
level teachers to try to stay on the same schedule.
2. Where do your resources like worksheets, power points, and other assignments come from?
 Textbooks provide worksheets, study guides, and also power points. The internet is also a good resource. Many
times we just create our own power points based off of the textbook.
3. How do you come up with your lesson plans and what materials do you use while creating these lesson
plans?
 I generally follow the pacing guide and textbook. Sometimes my lesson plans change because the students
need more time in a specific area or have prior knowledge on the subject. I incorporate videos, worksheets,
power points, and other teachers.
WHAT IS ONE THING YOU WOULD LIKE TO TRY IN THE
CLASSROOM IN YOUR REMAINING TIME LEFT TO OBSERVE?

• One thing that I would like to do with my remaining time, is to teach an entire lesson on my own since
the same lesson is taught three times a day.
