What is the purpose of the small intestine?

The small intestine absorbs nutrients and minerals from the broken down food. The nutrients will then be sent to the
blood so the body can use it.

Which one is the larger molecule? Glucose (sugar) or starch?

Starch because its has lots of glucose combined together whereas glucose is a
single molecule
The Visking tube experiment represents the small intestine. We placed a solution of
starch and sugar inside the tube and we waited for 15 minutes.

Why do certain molecules flow pass the small intestine’s membrane to the blood stream?

Only small and soluble substances can pass across the wall of the small intestine. Large insoluble substances cannot pass
through because its broken down enough by the enzymes.

Used for breaking down starch into simpler sugar such as maltose
and dextrin. Which are later broken down by the small intestine
At what temperature do you think the enzymes in saliva would work best in? Explain.

The enzymes in saliva will work best in temperate around 37°C. This is because if its in a low temperature the enzymes
will deactivate and at a higher temperature, the enzyme is denatured.

(hints: heat energy absorbed = 4.2 x amount of water x temperature rise)
