Product View - RFID Trainer NV4000
RFID Technology
Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) is an automatic identification method, relying on storing and
remotely retrieving data using devices called RFID tags or transponders.

RFID System
• Barcodes
• Speech recognition
• Biometrics
• Smart Cards

Inventor of RFID
Dr. Jerry Landt is godfathers of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology.

Advantages of RFID over Barcodes
• Barcode readers require a direct line of sight to the printed barcode; RFID readers do not require a
direct line of sight to either active RFID tags or passive RFID tags.

• RFID tags can be read at much greater distances; an RFID reader can pull information from a tag
at distances up to 300 feet. The range to read a barcode is much less, typically no more than fifteen
feet.

• RFID readers can read RFID tags much faster and read rates of forty or more tags per second are
possible. Reading barcodes is much more time-consuming; due to the fact that a direct line of sight
is required, if the items are not properly oriented to the reader it may take seconds to read an
individual tag. Barcode readers usually take a half-second or more to successfully complete a read.
RFID System Mainly Consists of:

• Trans-receiver (Reader)

• Tag

• Microcontroller

Classification of RFID Technology
• 1) Active type

– Large antenna range

– Can read up to 100 cards simultaneously

• 2) Passive type

– Short antenna range

– Can read up to 3 or 4 cards simultaneously

Active and Passive both tags can be programmed according to our requirement.
Specification of RFID Technology

• Electromagnetic coupling

• Carrier frequency is 13.56 MHz

• Range of transmission is <15cm

• Modulation type : ASK

Amplitude Shift Keying:
Amplitude-shift keying (ASK) is a form of
modulation that represents digital data as variations in
the amplitude of a carrier wave.
The amplitude of an analogue carrier signal varies in
accordance with the bit stream (modulating signal),
keeping frequency and phase constant. The level of
amplitude can be used to represent binary logic 0s
and 1s.
It can support multi-protocol tags like:

• ISO15693

• ISO14443A

• ISO14443B
View of Graphical LCD

• Tag carries the UID code which is modulated & transmitted from tag card.

• Receiver antenna receives the UID code & detect/decode it.

• Data is sent to controller for further applications.
