INTRODUCTION Viscosity x Shear Rate
The ceramic coating decoration sector has now characterized a technological
revolution, more specifically the digital printing industry, which allows the
coatings to be decorated with digital images that can be expanded or reduced
According to the demand of the project. These images can be printed in high
definition, and allow customization in a simple and fast way, also with the ease
of storing digital data and its low cost of storage in contrast to conventional
methods. Both changes in size and adjustments are much lower compared to
the traditional method that is often run manually, through the use of screens
requiring additional time and material, which leaves the activity more costly.
There are widely used printheads that are continuous ink jet (ICJ) and drop On
Demand (DOD – drop-on-demand), in which the difference is given by dripping
which is emitted only by a single hole in the ICJ head and by a matrix of holes in
the DOD head that respond to digital signals.
The paints used in the decoration of ceramic coatings must satisfy two criteria:
first have the rheological characteristics necessary to pass through the
printhead and second keep the desired colour after the application in the
coating. With this, the purpose of this work is to make the characterisation of
paints used for ceramic decoration and to analyse the influence of each variable
in the final print quality. Raman Spectroscopy

MATERIALS AND METHOD

Digital ceramic coatings in beige and brown colours (TDBEG and TDMAR), paints
for direct application in decoration of mugs, plates were used.
About 10ml of each of the inks were used, with the intended digital ceramic
printing were put in the process of drying for approximately one week, in a
hothouse of the mark of Leo with controller RA model TLK 48.
After drying, the X-ray fluorescence assay (XRF) was carried out in the
spectrophotometer, using the powder from the drying step of the inks which
was also used later in the X-ray diffraction tests (XRD) in the diffractometer of X-Ray Diffraction

Raman spectral analysis with lasers available in the 532nm wavelengths and

Inks in liquid state were subjected to a colorimetry assay in Colorimeter
Colourum 2 – 45/0 ° from Delta Color, thus obtaining its CIELAB system
coordinates, and also to an rheological analysis in Brookfield R/S Plus
Rheometer.
