 When was Football
Invented in Britain?

Football Goes as far back as the medieval times.
However football games were often violent back then.

Manchester United
 The History of Manchester United


 Manchester United was formed in 1878 as Newton Heath

 Later in 1950’s Manchester United had a team known as the “Busby

Babes” and won 13 trophies with them however in 1958 some
Manchester United players lost their lives known as the Munich Air
Disaster which the plane was trying to take off in snow and it crashed
into a fence. 8 United players lost their lives that year.

 George Best Year’s – He was known as the best United player

of all time, scoring 137 goals in his club career, winning 4
trophies and honours like “player of the year”. However in
2005 George Best died due to drinking too much alcohol.
 The Sir Alex Ferguson Years


 Sir Alex Ferguson started his managing career in 1986.

 However his career didn’t start off well. He went the first 5 years without
winning a trophy
 In 1991 they won the Premier league for the first time under Sir Alex but in
1999 they won the treble (European cup, Premier League and FA cup).
 Then won the Champions league again in 2008
 By the time he retired he won 49 trophies with Manchester United. He had
the most successful management career in history of any football club.

 Manchester United 2014-
2015

 After Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 we had a new
manager called David Moyes, however due to losing
so many games he became unpopular and got sacked
from the club.

 Later on in 2014 they hired a new manager from

Holland called Luis Van Gaal



 This is based in Edgeley about half a mile from Stockport College

 In 2008 they had a play off in the biggest stadium in the UK Wembley
and beat Rochdale 3-2. I was a supporter in the crowd at the time.

• England Have only won the world cup once in 1966 beating Germany in the
World Cup 4-2

• Now here is just a little song that represents the England
