The visual arts are a way of expressing feeling, emotion,
opinion, or taste through visual means.

“Visual arts" means the visual works of art stay in one

place, unmoving, while we observe them.

Visual arts exclude PERFORMING ARTS & LITERARY
ARTS except COMICS.

Performing Arts Literary Arts

Music Short Story
Theatre Novels
Dance Poems
Mime Comics
Stand-up comedy Etc.
Etc.

The visual arts are a way of expressing feeling, emotion, opinion,

or taste through static visual means such as photography,
painting, sculpting, and drawing. The performing arts are ways to
express opinion, emotion, feeling, or taste by means
of performance such as theatre, music, and public speech.

[Sabbir Hussain, Lecturer, Dept. of Architecture, DUET]

[Sabbir Hussain, Lecturer, Dept. of Architecture, DUET]
WHY?

The visual arts are a way of expressing feeling, emotion, opinion,

or taste through visual means such as photography, painting,
sculpting, and drawing. The performing arts are ways to express
opinion, emotion, feeling, or taste by means of performance such
as theatre, music, and public speech.

“Visual arts" means two-dimensional things, (i.e. sculpture,

pottery) come under separate headings. Likewise, visual works of
art stay in one place, unmoving, while we observe them. For
this reason, performing arts-- stage, screen, music, and dance
arts--also come under their own separate headings.

[Sabbir Hussain, Lecturer, Dept. of Architecture, DUET]

ASSIGNMENT 01

Is ‘architecture’ a form of visual art? Write an argument

from your own perception.

Date of Submission: 17 May, 2017

[Sabbir Hussain, Lecturer, Dept. of Architecture, DUET]

ART AS EXPERIENCE

Experience occurs continuously; but only some

experiences are complete and unified. When “the
material experienced has run its course to fulfillment”,
then we might say, “That was an experience.”

Oh..Art
Appreciation! How
boring class that
was! Horrible
experience!

Mr. DUETian Architect

[Sabbir Hussain, Lecturer, Dept. of Architecture, DUET]
ART AS EXPERIENCE

“In such experiences, every successive part flows

freely, without seam and without unfilled blanks, into
what ensues” (p. 206).

What do you think of this description of the experience

of making or encountering a work of art?

The artist is a producer; the product is experienced by

the perceiver. But the art maker must also be governed
by this experience. If not, the art is cold and dead.

[Sabbir Hussain, Lecturer, Dept. of Architecture, DUET]

ART AS EXPERIENCE

So art unifies “doing and undergoing”. “The artist

embodies in himself the attitude of the perceiver while
he works.”

(But the perceiver of what? Of a message? Of the

exercise of skill? Of beauty, or some other property?
Maybe even usefulness or efficiency?)

ITS UPON TO YOU!!
