Image Fusion
Image Fusion is a combination of two or more
different images to form a new image.
Extracting information from multi-source images
Improves the spatial resolution for the original multi-
spectral image and preserve the spectral information.
Image fusion can be done in three levels:
Pixel level fusion
Feature level fusion
Decision level fusion
Objective
Image fusion based on wavelet transform and second
generation curvelet transform
The proposed algorithm applied to
Multi-focus image fusion
Complementary image fusion
Better description of the edges in images and analysis of
the features in images
Discrete Wavelet Transform
Wavelet Transform exhibits time frequency localization
and yields acceptable fused output.
The edges and singularities are not well represented.
Suffers from limited directionality
The point singularity is better suited for wavelets in 1D
signals ,but 2D signals like images have curve or line
singularities where wavelets fails to approximate.
Curvelet Transform
Curvelet Transform was proposed by Candes and Donoho
in 2000.
It was derived from Ridgelet Transform.
It involves
First Generation CT
Second Generation CT
First generation curvelet

Uses complex series of steps involving the ridgelet

analysis of radon transform of an image.

Slow performance
Second generation curvelet

Discards the use of the ridgelet transform, thus reducing

the amount of redundancy in the transform and increases
the speed considerably.
 It have two types
Continuous CT
Discrete CT
Discrete Curvelet Transform
Discrete curvelet transform (DCT) algorithms are
Un equispaced FFT Transform
The Wrapping Transform

The Wrapping Algorithm has faster computation time.

Fast Discrete Curvelet Transform
Frequency space is divided into dyadic annuli based
on concentric squares.
Each annulus is subdivided into trapezoidal regions.
