Sodium bicarbonate are mixed together with water-based paint to provide a fire-retarding effect to the paint.
Commercial paints are made of organic compounds that when exposed to fire will easily catch fire. Sodium bicarbonate is possible to
slower the combustion process as when it is heated, it tends to release carbon dioxide and water. These products help to retard fire.
The fire resistivity property is required if the paint is applied on the surface of wood furniture and doors. The simple blending
and low-cost technology as well as easiness in application in just a simple brush stroke make this innovation a ‘Do It
Yourself’ (DIY) technology that are available from the kitchen.
