“USB WI-FI ADAPTER: AN ALTERNATIVE DEVICE

TO LAPTOP WIRELESS CAPABILITY FOR


COMPUTER SYSTEMS SERVICING (CSS)
(COC’S 2 AND 3)”

Abstract
Laptop is built to designed for handy and comfort
use in every user around the globe. Besides, Technical
Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)
included Computer Systems Servicing (CSS) which is
migrated from Computer Hardware Servicing (CHS)
before. Since Taft National High School obtain this
course for Senior High School, so they seriously needs
complete facilities same likely as what assessment
areas look like. Taking into account, the school
institution is having problem with the lack of
equipment much particularly with the laptop
availability.
Seeing students unable to perform entirely whole
competencies is a left-hanging problem. However, together
with the initiative cooperation and collaboration made by
the researchers they were able to find an alternative way for
resolving station disruption. It is through USB Wi-Fi
adapter which lets desktop computers perform same
capability of laptop during station build-up. As concluded,
null hypothesis is accepted that there is no significant
difference in terms of performance between using desktop
with USB Wi-Fi Adapter and laptop computers. It proves
the validity on the importance of this study as to help the
institution including the Senior High Students.
Background of the Study
Computer Systems Servicing (CSS) is a course
designed to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes of a
Computer Service Technician in accordance with industry
standards. It covers basic, common and core competencies
such as installing, maintaining, configuring and
diagnosing computer systems and networks. The
Department of Education under K-12 curriculum include
this course descending in Technical-Vocational-
Livelihood (TVL) track conjoining Agri-Fishery Arts,
Home Economics, Industrial Arts, TVL Maritime and
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) where
CSS aligned with.

anything new”

This course actually needed three (3) units of Personal


Computers, one (1) desktop for server, one (1) desktop
client and one (1) laptop client. To complete the setup,
it needs also a Wi-Fi router, Switch/Hub, Patch Panel
with tools and materials such as Star Screwdriver,
Plier, Crimping Tool, Cable/Wire Stripper, Local Area
Network (LAN) Tester, Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP)
Cable and lastly Registered Jack (RJ) 45 which
complements network connectivity.
Unfortunately, in Taft National High School they
do not have yet those equipment because of the delay
and since it was not yet delivered their instructor
decided to make one (1) station using old desktop
computers from Junior High School Laboratory but due
to the absence of Laptop their instructor force himself to
let the students use his laptop as one of the client.
Whenever he need it the student performing specific
competency also stop what he/she is currently doing.
That is really the major problem wherein Taft National
High School facing nowadays and maybe in succeeding
years.

“Don’t stop when you’re tired,
stop when you’re done!”

The lack of equipment most especially the presence


of laptop regardless of anything else. That is why
the researchers look and search for possible
solutions to that problem and suddenly they came
up with the idea of USB Wi-Fi adapter which can
serve as an alternative device to function the
capability of a laptop
This is USB-like form which is plug and play
meaning when you insert this automatically Wi-Fi
connection will be available most probably in desktop
computers. So instead of finding a laptop to complete
the setup you just need a desktop computer as
substitute with this USB Wi-Fi adapter functions. For
the information of others, Taft National High School
has many desktop computers taking out from Junior
High Computer Laboratory that is unnecessarily used
compare to laptop availability.
Research Hypothesis

USB Wi-Fi adapter strongly holds an important role in


honing the skills specialization of the Senior High Student
not just in Taft National High School but in the other school
as well where CSS is offered. This well help maximizing
the time allotted in every CSS subject. So as to predict the
result these are the conclusions to be consider.
Null Hypothesis: There is no significant difference in terms
of performance between using desktop with USB Wi-Fi
Adapter and laptop computers.
Alternative Hypothesis: There is significant difference in
terms of performance between using desktop with USB Wi-
Fi Adapter and laptop computers.
Statement of the Problem
The main objective of this study is to find an
adequate alternative device to figure out availability
during Computer Systems Servicing performance in
Taft National High School. Through this proposed
research questions, it can lead the study to achieve its
goal. These questions were as follows:
1. What maybe the implications of this study on the
Senior High Students of Taft National High School in
terms of:
1.1. Performance Time Allotted
1.2. Mastery
1.3. Understanding Level
2. To what particular extent does this study boost the
characters and attitude of the Senior High Students in
Taft National High School when we talk about:
2.1. Confidence Status
2.2. Self-Competence
2.3. Knowledge Attainment
3. Does it give huge contribution for the school itself to
increase number of possible National Certificate II Senior
High Students?
4. How can the CSS Instructors able to utilize number of
stations if ever this study is effective?
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The intent of this study is to resolve for the
meantime since this year K-12 is a transitional period
implemented by the DepEd, the lacking of technical
equipment that limits the number of student performance
during CSS subject. Through this study such subject will
accumulate certain benefits to develop fast teachings.
For the Students, they can able to perform much
quickly with more time allotted compare before. They can
easily adopt the skills oriented by their instructor in every
competency. The retention will be recognized and more
learnings will be gain because of the multiple stations
made.
For the CSS Instructors, they will not anymore
sacrifice their own laptop just to complete the setup.
Otherwise, they can have more time to teach and give
some additional inputs with regards to the topic.
Although the equipment is not yet delivered, using that
alternative device the situation is not affected.
For the School, the perspective of the graduating
Junior High Students will change resulting for more
enrollees. Their personal assumption that Taft National
High School is not equipped enough to deal the course of
CSS will eventually alter throughout the study.
Scope and Limitations
This study focuses on the relationship between
laptop and USB Wi-Fi Adapter as to fulfill laptop
capability during CSS performance. Randomly selected
Senior High Students will perform as to say
competencies conform its affinity. The extent of this
study is within Taft National High School premises and
if ever other school having the same issue will adopt
this alternative way, then they are part of the boundary.
This will be conducted on 2nd semester of school year
2017-2018. Perhaps, Senior High Student’s
performance is the basis going through making
concrete conclusion.
Research Design

Ever since before through implementation of


K-12 curriculum by the Department of Education
way back 2016, different fields has been
developed to enhance and discover the potential
of every student to become fully-equip all
throughout the years added. Technical Vocational
Livelihood (TVL) particularly CSS is a sole-
specialization where Taft National High School
offered.
Due to lack of prerequisites when it comes to
facilities and equipment mostly during setting up
one (1) station with full-consider the researchers
was able to come up with the idea of looking an
ideal way for alternative mechanism to be
recognize. Specifically, in the client side where
laptop presence is the common problem in
completing the setup. As Senior High Students of
Taft NHS being part of this institution the
researchers can really evaluate the issues evolving
around the school.
POPULATION

The participants of this research are from


Grade XII Students of Taft National High School
and are composed of NC II holders and Non NC II
holders.

Data Collection Procedure
The steps in conducting this study where the
researchers did is identifying first the following
students who will perform COC’s 2 and 3, after
setting up one (1) optional station good for two way
possible. Afterwards, every participant is monitored
with their respective time one by one that was used
as the basis of determining the data results.
Statistical Treatment of Data
IBM SPSS Statistics 25 is a statistical
software tool used to solve business and research
problems by means of ad-hoc analysis, hypothesis
testing, and predictive analytics. It understands
data, analyze trends, forecast and plan to validate
assumptions and drive accurate conclusions that
can able to decide reliability on which hypothesis
will be rejected or not rejected whether null or
alternative.
Data Analysis
By looking at the “Bell Curve” standard
normal distribution with particular degree of
freedom value together with the tabulated t-value
and calculated t-value the researchers able to
evaluate the portion where the calculated t-value
falls in either of the two regions.

Figure 4 presents different scores acquired by
every participant during the performance, in
relation to the time they finish the two
competencies including the tallies and number of
frequencies.
Condition:
 If Calculated T-value>tabulated T-value then
null hypothesis will be rejected
 If Calculated T-value<tabulated T-value then
null hypothesis will not be rejected
The calculated t-value is 1.633 while the
tabulated t-value 2.776 both with degree of
freedom 4. As a result, the calculated t-value is
less than the table value at an alpha level of 0.05.
The p-value is greater than the alpha level: p
>0.05. So, the researchers’ null hypothesis is not
rejected.
SUMMARY
1. They get more time allowance in every topic
they going to perform, giving them more attention
to be focus on. Nevertheless, retention is never a
problem anymore for the reason that number of
stations can be increase.
2. Students are good of becoming competent
every now and then and can able to compete in
higher work industry. Besides, their confidence is
lifted pursuing to apply those knowledge enabling
them be more effective as student as well as
computer technician.
3. This could really an opening opportunity not
just in school alone but also in the lives of all
incoming Senior High students to help themselves
in learning and mastering all competencies.
4. It is necessary for the CSS instructors to take
consider in building few stations as for the sake of
Senior High students in the meantime as soon as
possible.
CONCLUSIONS
Based on the findings of the study, the
researchers have made the following conclusions:
1. There is no significant difference in terms of
performance between using desktop with USB Wi-
Fi Adapter and laptop computers.
2. By simply buying that USB Wi-Fi adapter
ranging price around 300 up to 600 pesos, the
school can accommodate 1 station immediately.
3. It is effective way to set-up stations for
student’s daily training as a sort of preparation for
the coming NC II assessment.
RECOMMENDATIONS

The researchers highly recommended that


school should take watch for this study, whenever
possible school faculties’ particularly laboratory
in-charge needed to allow few numbers of
computer units to be reformat and students in
group must contribute small amount of money to
buy USB Wi-Fi adapter for training purposes.
