 Introduction
• The origin of industrial engineering began with some of it’s techniques that date back
to the agricultural revolution. At that time, some improvement techniques were used to
optimize the productivity of rural economic activities. Among the key points of
improvement in the agricultural revolution, we can find:

Renewal of farming systems

Improvement of the technique and

Reorganization of the exploitation.

 Manufacturing Technology
• Manufacturing technology provides the tools that enable production of all
manufactured goods. These master tools of industry magnify the effort of
individual workers and give an industrial nation the power to turn raw
materials into the affordable, quality goods essential to today’s society. .
The subject of manufacturing technology is very vast and includes various
types of machines tools required to manufacture finished products which range
from:

• Simple hand-hels tools • Grinders

• Lathe machines • Milling machine

• Of course it also involves several different techniques of
manufacturing some of these include casting, forging, alloying, welding,
soldering, brazing etc. each of these techniques have their own advantages
and limitations and are a specialized field of knowledge.
 Material Science
• Manufacturing is done by use of metals and materials of different kinds such as
semiconductors and alloys hence the importance and knowledge of the same in
the field of manufacturing technology cannot be underestimated at and cost.

• Material science basically deals with the property of materials and their behaviour
under different circumstances and environments which is extremely useful and
necessary if those materials are to be worked around to manufacture any sort of
finished products using them.

 One of the biggest news in the manufacturing technology sector in the last few years is
the proliferation and application of 3D printing technology.
 It has forced engineers and designers to think very differently when thinking about
product development. As this more manufacturers adopt and use 3D printing
technology.
Nanotechnology
It involves the manipulation of matter on atomic, molecular and supramolecular scales; thus bringing with it
super-precision manufacturing. Examples of application in nanotechnology include:

• Smaller memory cards that have more memory space,
• Clothes that last longer and keep the wearer cool in the summer,
• And tennis and bowling balls that last longer.
In the future, there will be nanobots (microscopic robots) that will carry drugs to specific tissues in our body .

technology that allows electronic
devices connected to each other,
within the existing Internet
infrastructure, to communicate
with one another without human
intervention.
 Cloud Computing
• Cloud computing is the practice of using a network of
Internet-connected remote services along various points
to store, manage, and process data.
Big Data and Predictive Maintenance Technology

• These technologies include electronic

devices that connect factories through
the internet and web pages that
double as dashboards for controlling
the processes. Predictive maintenance
technology helps predict snags and
defects and thus cuts downtime and
costs.
 Recommendation
• Any person wanting to specialize in the area of manufacturing technology
needs to master various principles and techniques. The training starts from
learning the very basics of machine workshop including tools and simple
procedures such as filing, drilling, boring, honing etc., and goes on to the use
of more complicated tools and techniques involving the use of heavy and
versatile machine tools.
 Conclusion
Manufacturing technology is a great help for companies, as they constantly
change to evolve the efficiency and effectiveness of a company and its
products, with the ease of all machine tolls.
