The Backgrounds
by : Annisa Syahriani
Davy in 1800 regarded silicon as a compound, rather than
an element. Eleven years later in 1811, Gay Lussac and
Thenard argued that Silicon (Latin: silicium) is a chemical
element that has the symbol of Si and atomic number 14.
Silicon is the second most abundant element after oxygen, in
the crust of Silicon Earth reaching nearly 25.7 %. This chemical
element was discovered by Jons Jakob Berzelius. Silicon there
in the is present in the form of clay, granite, quartz and sand,
mostly in the form of silicon dioxide (known as silica) and in
the form of silicates.
The Backgrounds
Silicon is one of the elements that are useful to
humans. In its form as sand and clay, it can be used
to make building materials such as bricks. Silicone is
also useful as a heating furnace and in silicate form it
is used to make enamels, clay pots, and so on. Silica
as sand is the main material glasses Glasses can be
made in various shapes and used as containers,
windows, insulators, and other applications.

Source & Occurrence

Silicon can be found in the

sun and stars, wich is the silicon makes up 27.7%
main component of the
famous one meteorite of the Earth's crust.
fuel aerolites.

The second most abundant Silicon can’t be found in

element in the earth’s atomic state, but mostly as
crust. oxide and silicate.
The Most Important Reaction Of Silicon

Reaction Of Silicon With Air

When heated in air, the silicon reacts with oxygen in
the combustion reaction to form SiO2. Compounds of
Silicon with oxygen is the most abundant in the
earth’s crust and most of its usefulness.

Function Of Silicon

For Health

Medical support
Plastic surgery Example : heart valve tool, contact
lens, infusion toll, ect.

Implant the human body And for care the scar after plastic
surgery operation.
Example : raise the nose, cheek Example : sillicone sheet ( silicon
bone, or raise the chin or ect gel)
Function Of Silicon in Industrial Product’s

Computer and Electronics

Circuit boards in computers, cell phones, VCR and

DVD players all depend on silicon-based materials, like
hyper-pure polycrystalline, for protection and insulation.
Silicone rubber is an essential component in providing
proper insulation for computer and technical
Function Of Silicon
Textile And Household Product’s

When it comes to fabric, silicon can alter texture as well as make

a material waterproof. Clothing protection from shrinking, stains,
and wrinkles is also due in part to silicon-based materials, and
even detergents, fabric softeners, and solvents depend on silicon
to improve their capabilities. Personal products, like deodorant,
antiperspirant, cosmetics, and moisturizers, obtain their smooth
feel from silicon.
Function Of Silicon
Automobiles and Architecture

Silicon is also responsible for protecting buildings and cars from

extreme weather and general environmental stress. Automobiles
benefit from protective silicon-based coatings and lubricants enabling
optimum performance. From exterior car polish to interior airbag
fabric coating, silicon products enhance numerous aspects of an
automobile. Buildings, too, benefit from breathable coatings and
waterproof exteriors that simultaneously allow trapped moisture to
escape.

Danger Of Silicon
by : Yudhistira Bayu.P

Exposure to Silica dust and the occurrence of

Silicosis increases the risk of lung cancer, tuberculosis, and
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Silicon crystalline
irritates the skin and eyes on contact, can make a cancer if
we use to much to body.
