WHAT IS ALTERNATIVE LEARNING
SYSTEM (ALS)?
• It is a free education program implemented by the
Department of Education (DepEd).
• Benefits those who cannot afford formal schooling and
follows whatever is their available schedule.
• It also provides a viable alternative to the existing formal
education instruction, encompassing both the non-formal
and informal source of knowledge and skills.
VISION AND MISSION

• With the Bureau of Alternative Learning System (BALS) by the year 2015,
the Philippines envision the attainment of a universal functional literacy
brought about by excellence in non formal and informal delivery of basic
education.

• The ALS is an instrument to uphold the learners aspiration for further


learning and meaningful participation in the community and society as a
whole.
TARGET LEARNERS

• Elementary and secondary school dropouts


• Youth and adults in school but over aged for grade 6 or 4th year
• Unemployed/underemployed out of school youths and adults
• Industry-based workers, housewives, maids, factory workers and drivers
• Members of cultural minorities/indigenous people
• Persons with disabilities (PWDs)/physically challenged
• Inmates/rebels/soldiers integrates

BASIC LITERACY PROGRAM (BLP)

• BLP is an intensive community-based training for illiterate out of


school youth and adults, who are willing to learn basic literacy skills.
• There are three (3) basic literacy skills these are
• Ability to read with comprehension
• Ability to compute simple problems
• Creative thinking and problem solving
• How do learners access BLP?
• Recruitment
• Screening and placement
• Enrollment

• Mainstream to formal school

CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAM

• This is an education program provided for those who


left the formal education system.
• It is designed to educate them and give further
knowledge or skills to be applied in the near future.
ALS ACCREDITATION AND
EQUIVALENCY TEST
(A&E TEST)
WHAT IS A & E TEST

• The ALS A and E test formerly known as the Non formal Education A and
E test is a multiple choice.
• It is a pencil and paper test designed to measure the competencies of
those who did not finished formal education (elementary or secondary).
• Passers are given a certificate or diploma certifying their competencies as
comparable to the graduates of the formal school system.kmjjhn
