ABSTRACTS
The need for fossil fuels and the emissions generated from these fuels are
increasing daily. Cooking oil can be processed into biodiesel as an alternative
fuel to replace diesel. Biodiesel is a renewable energy, chemically,
the nature of Biodiesel is the esterified product between methanol or ethanol and
free fatty acids in vegetable oil or animal fat.

ACID CATALYSIS

• Acid catalysis used: H2SO4, H3PO4, HCl

• Advantage
Catalyst for both ester metabolism and esterification
reaction
• Defect
Slow speed
Temperature and pressure
• Acid catalyst is only used in pre-ester process before entering
ester metabolism
BASE CATALYSIS
• Base catalysis used: NaOH, KOH, CH3O
• Advantage
Fast conversion high
Cheaper
Less corrosive
• Defect
No use for FFA và H2O
• It is used for company

RESULT AND DISCUSSION
RESULT AND DISCUSSION
ADVANTAGES DEFECT
• Limit hazardous waste to the environment • High price
• Can be reproduced • Easily biodegradable
• Contributing to diversify and create clean energy • Can cause pollution
sources for the future
• 1% biodiesel into diesel can increase the
lubrication ability of engines from 40-60%.
Reduce about 95% of unburnt hydrocarbon
content, reduce 50% CO in exhaust gas, no SO2

• Biodiesel has diesel-like characteristics

• No production interruption, little
• Heterogeneous catalysts should be commonly used
