Effect on the Message of a One-Way
Communication Procedure
Three psychological processes characterize this simplification of a message
(Allport & Postman, 1945;Bartlett, 1932) dalam buku Johnson & Johnson
(2014)
1. Leveling : penerima cenderung mengurangi jumlah informasi yang
diterima karena biasanya hanya mengingat sebagian kecil saja. pesan
cenderung lebih pendek dan ringkas agar mudah dipahami

1. Sharpening: penerima mempertajam beberapa bagian dari informasi

sehingga poin pentingnya dapat mudah diingat.

1. Assimilation: The receiver takes much of the message into his own frame
of reference and personality. Thus, interpretations and memories of what
was heard are affected by the receiver’s own thoughts and feelings.
