The Import Data Coordinate System dialog box appears. The
default settings are the Database Coordinate System settings,
which were defined when the project was built. Accept these
default settings (the well data are in a Geographic
Latitude/Longitude coordinate system).

Click Finish to begin the import process. A series of progress
bars (Importing, Loading, Updating, and Layer Create) will
appear to monitor the import.

Once the import is complete, launch WellBase from the GeoGraphix
tool bar on the right side of ProjectExplorer.
WellBase Information Manager shows the information from the first
well in the database in scout ticket format.

arrows to become familiar with WellBase Information Manager.

Production Data
WellBase supports monthly production data and production test
data. This data supports robust production statistics and analysis.
Production data statistics and graphic can then be used to create
descriptive display layers for viewing in GeoAtlas.

• Production Analysis module displays Rate vs. Time, Rate vs.
Cum, and P/Z vs. Gas Cum charts complete with EUR and
Remaining Reserve calculations
• To save the calculated EUR and RR values to WellBase, click the
Save Results button (accept the Default Save to Source
selection).

• Select Layer >> Create Layer >> Production Graph… from the

Right-click on the map with the Zoom tool to turn it off. Move
the mouse cursor so the tip of the arrow is in the center of a
well symbol. Observe the yellow box with well information text
displayed.

This feature is called Map Tips and the options for this feature can
found in Map Tips Options. Select Tools >> Map Tips >>
Define/Edit on the GeoAtlas menu bar or select the Map Tips
Options button on the View toolbar to access Map Tips Options.

These defined Fields can be modified or new fields can be added
to appear as Map Tips on the layer. Essentially, any WellBase data
could be displayed, as a Map Tip, but the Field must be added to
the Map Tip Bin during the layer create process. This will be
demonstrated in a later workflow task. Click Cancel to exit the
Define Map Tips dialog box.

To demonstrate the thematic mapping feature associated with
the well symbol colors, select the Define Thematic Symbols
button on the Active Layer toolbar to access thematic
mapping options.

Scroll down to the Top Subsea field. While holding down the left
mouse button, drag the Top Subsea field into the window on the
right and place it at the bottom of the well symbol.

The formation and source codes must be defined for the top subsea
data posting. Click the down arrow in the Select formation list box and
select RDRV (Red River) from the drop-down list.
Select all source codes by clicking the button to add the codes
to the Selected list box on the right.

After the selection is made, the Top Subsea field in the list box to
the left shows a check mark next to it. Formations. Top Subsea now
appears in a text box underneath the well symbol.

Expand the Well Header table in the Database Table tree, and scroll
down to Name and # (Well Number). Select Name and drag and
drop it above the well symbol. Select # and drag and drop just to
the right of Name.

Click and hold the left mouse button and draw a box around both
the WellHeader.Name and WellHeader.# text boxes. The text boxes
will be highlighted with diagonal lines.

Right-click inside one of the highlighted text boxes, and select


Add/Join Text to open the Joined Text Preferences dialog box.

Highlight Well Header. # in the list box on the left. In the Prefix text:
box on the right type a space, the number sign, #, and a space.
These actions will join the Name and # together as a single data
posting entity with the number symbol and space before the #.

In the WellBase Layer Create - New Layer/Template dialog box,
there is now a single text box above the well symbol. Place the
mouse cursor over the box and the Tool Tip indicates the posting
now contains the Wel Name and the #. Drag the posting to a
desired position above the well symbol.

From the Well Header table in the Database Tables list box, drag the
Comp Date, Datum Elev, Reference, and TD fields to the Map Tip Bin
(the fields in the Map Tip Bin will be displayed as Map Tips on the

From the Production Statistics table, drag the Cumulative Gas
Volume, to the Map Tip Bin.
On the Date and Production Zone dialog box, click the check
box for All producing zones.

Click Finish. Then in a similar fashion, drag the Cumulative Oil
Volume, and the Cumulative Water Volume fields to the Map Tip
Bin selecting the All producing Zones check box for each.
To edit the font attributes of both postings, select both postings by
holding the left mouse button down and dragging a box around
both postings.

In the Name: list box at the bottom of the dialog box, type Wells,
Red River Subsea and click the checkbox for Template (this layer’s
posting attributes will be used to create another layer).

Click OK to begin creating the layer. An advancing bar will appear


in the lower right corner indicating the progress of the layer
creation. The dialog box will disappear when the layer is created.
