RURAL-URBAN MIGRATION
❖ A form of internal migration which means a movement

international or intercontinental migration.

❖ Refers to the movement of people from the

countryside respectively the rural areas into the cities,
often the metropolitan cities of a country.

❖ Rapidly going in momentum on account of greater

degree of urbanisation in the economy.
Reasons for Rural- Urban Migration
❖ the census data on migration were obtained
➢ Since first Indian census of 1881 to 1961-by asking
the question on place of birth.
➢ In 1971 census-an additional question about the
place of last residence of the resident was
introduced
➢ In 1981,1991 and 2001 census periods-reasons for
migration from place of last residence and
duration of stay at the place of enumeration was
included.
Reason of Rural- Urban Migrations-
❏ Basically men migration are more than women.
❏ Reasons of migration of men are employment, business
and education.
❏ Employment and business accounts for little more than
tenth migrants, while education as a reason for
