THE METABOLISM OF ETHANOL

ETHANOL is quickly absorbed to the stomach and
small intestines and then rapidly transported in
the bloodstreams to other organs.
• The oxidation process is possible with the high
molecular weight enzyme alcohol
dehydregenase and c aldehyde
dehydregenase.

• Accumulation of Acetaldehyde causes

Hangover.

• Antabuse- a drug given to alcoholics to

prevent them from consuming alcoholic
beverages
Methanol is toxic. Methanol is
oxidized by enzyme to yeild
formaldehyde and formic acid.
As a result the pH of blood
decreases, blindness and death
follows.
