• Transparent- When light passes through

an object
• Translucent- When only partial amount of
light passes through an object
• Opaque- When light is completely
prevented from passing through an

• When light falls on a black opaque
object, all light is absorbed and it looks
black
• If light falls on an object which is not
black in color, part of the light is reflected
and we can see it

• When light falls on a mirror, all the light
rays is reflected
• What do you know about the reflected ray?

Law of reflection of light
• Angle of incident ray= angle of reflected
ray
• Both incident ray and reflected ray falls on
the same point on the mirror
• Both incident ray and reflected ray falls on
the same plane perpendicular to the mirror

•Fold it in the middle of the word horizontally
•Put a mirror on the fold line and see what
happen

Formation of image by a plain
mirror
• Properties of the image formed:
– Distant between object & image is the
same;
– Size of object & image is the same;
– Image remains upright;
– Reflected image is laterally inverted.
