 144 Armani Residences.
 First 37 floors- Armani Hotel Dubai.
 Next 68 floors- 1000 Residential Units.
 2,20,000 sq. ft. Prime Business Space.
 35,000 people to live, work and stay
 15,000 sq. ft. Fitness Area
 3000 parking spots on 4 levels.
 50 elevators, double decker elevator
carrying 42 people.

TIMELINES/SCHEDULE
 Tower Designing -Skidmore, Owings and Merrill LLP (2003).
 Conceptualised by Dubai Govt. and EMAAR (2004).
 Construction began on 21 Sept. 2004
 Initial stages: One floor every 3 days.
 Interior Design- SOM (2005)
 Mismanagement in workers wages led to delays in project (2006).
 Schmidlin was removed from contract of cladding (2007).
 Replaced with JV -- Arabian Aluminum Company LLC and Far East
Group (Honk Kong).
 Became tallest tower in world by surpassing Taipei 101 in height. (July
2007)
 Overtook Sears Tower antenna‘s height of 527.3 meters or 1,730 feet 8

(August 2007).
BUDGET
• Total budget of Burj Dubai: $4.1
billion
• Downtown Burj Dubai: $20 billion.
• JV formed by SAMSUNG, BESIX and
Arabtec: $871 million.
• Contract financing by 3 UAE Banks:
Emirates Bank Intl, Abu Dhabi
Commercial Bank and Mashreqbank
• Initial cost of project: $876 million,
overrun by $624 million ($1.5 billion)

PROJECT PERFORMANCE

• Delay by almost 1 year: Bankruptcy,


Global Recession
• Completed within 69 months.
• One floor a week to One floor every 3
days. (2.3 floors a week)
• Surpassed Taipei 101 in height.
• Overtook Sears Tower in Chicago, US for
building most floors (after 100 floors).
• Tallest freestanding structure in the
world, surpassing CN Tower, Canada.
(553.33 meter or 1882 feet)
