 About Layers

• Think of a layer as a sheet of paper

• AutoCAD(LT) supports a maximum of 32,767 layers
• AutoCAD(LT) adds layer 0 (zero)
• Cannot be renamed or deleted
• Layer Defpoints is added by AutoCAD(LT) or the user
• Does not plot
• Layer names can have up to 255 characters
• letters, numbers, spaces, and several special characters
• Cannot include the following characters: < > / \ “ : ; ? * | =
• Sorted alphanumerically, with special characters first

• Assign properties to objects

• Color, Linetype, Lineweight
• Control the display of layers
• Freeze and Thaw
• On or Off
• Control whether a layer plots
• Plot or NoPlot
• Control modifying of objects on a layer
