Social networking is the connection of friends or family together which allow you to
communicate easily. With social networking sites you can have a long chain of
friends
you can chat or share information or ideal with. According to Boyd & Ellison (2008),
“SNS can be defined as web-based services that allow individuals to construct
a public or semi-public profile within a bounded system, articulate a list of
other users with whom they share a connection, and view and traverse their
list of connections and those made by others within the system”.
As Kuppuswamy and Shankar (2010) explained that the social networks grabs
the total attention and concentration of the students and diverts it towards non
educational, unethical and inappropriate actions such as useless chatting, time
killing by random searching and not doing their jobs. Students and teenagers
mostly use social networks for time killing and sake of enjoyment but it has
been analyzed that internet use for education purpose and any appropriate task
including online tutorials, online lectures and education material downloading is
very good but use of internet for only social network is very useless perhaps
dangerous.
There are certain issues of identity, privacy, social capital, youth culture,
and education individual often add offline friends on Facebook and this blurs
the lines between work and home lives.
